I can't read the guy's mind, but I think some of you guys that are defending the ref on this play obviously missed something a little later on. I haven't seen it on any of the replays, but when I watching the game live, that ref gave Garcia some dirty looks. CBS clearly got good pics of his face. I could be wrong, but I think he did it on purpose. If anyone else has that on Tivo or anything, watch the plays afterward, he had a look on his face that was like, "come on, do come near me again, and I'll do it again."

I noticed that too. I think it was intentional. He meant to tackle him.

It was more of a kill shot than a tackle. He didn't wrap up. :D

Rogers Redding is having drills with him as we speak...working specifically on tackling technique to avoid further embarrassment for the conference.

I can't confirm it yet, but I've heard Bobby Gaston has been hired in a consulting role as well.

Man, this is the first time I've seen this! If I was the player I'd thrown a him a stiff arm!!!
is that a 15 yard penalty you think?

I'm sure!
"personal foul stiff arming the line ref.. 15 yards "

That would be funny if that guy was the line ref....the line judge is on the home teams sideline. The UMPIRE is the one in the middle!!

JK
That was freaking funny!!

P.s. i just called a friend of mine thats tied into the SEC officals and he said that he was talked to about the play. And he felt like that was the best move to make. He didnt know where the LSU players are. But he was marked down on the play. HE WILL NOT BE FIRED OR FINED!!!!

Guys lets let this one die!

And why would he care who won? He doesnt have anyties to either school?

I'm sorry but thats a TERRIBLE judgement call. TERRIBLE!!

He knew for a fact where the quarterback was running, but had no clue where the defense was.. so instead of taking a chance on possibly interfering with the defense, he makes the judgement call that it would better to definately interfere with the ball carrier. For someone whose job/hobby is judgement calls, this guy sure did a terrible job at it.

IMHO, the ref slipped back in time to his linebacker days at Kentucky. Whether or not it was an accident or not we'll likely NEVER know.

IMO, I think he flashed back to his linebacker instincts though thats not the SC quarterbacks fault. :?

It was obvious that it was a defensive type move, and since he was a lineback at Kentucky...it happened to be a football shoulder he gave him.

I thought it was hilarious when I saw it live, I was rolling.

QB or not, if a player is heading at me with full gear...I'd give him the shoulder too.

Did'nt look like he was going at him to me. It looked as if the ref stepped into the play and then threw the shoulder...giving just enough time for LSU's defenders to catch up. The Mad Hatter has to do whatever he can to win these days without CNS's recruits..HA.

wouldnt you step into the hit also?

Not if I had the ability to get out of the way!

Ive read alot of stuff said on this issue, but I think this pretty much sums it up.

Having coached linebackers for 14 years in high school, I was dissappointed to see such poor form used. He did fill the whole properly, but his head was not on the ball and he was too high. He didn't follow through and wrap his arms around the QB. LOL
I definitely think he had a flashback.

Why would he be fired or reprimanded? Some people really shock me with this stuff.

He really had nowhere to go. This isn't really an issue.

The real issue is Garcia. How do you let a referee own you like that?
