| FTBL Ref Tackle from LSU/USC going national

Why would you hope he was fired? Thats his JOB!! Second you can see that the Player was coming to him. The guy was going to run into him no matter what. He was just bracing for it.

I dont care. But dont say he is going to be fired. Thats just messed up!

Maybe that ref can take the place of Cody. :D

It's almost shocking to watch. I know refs can "throw" calls, but to actually lower the boom on a QB? WOW!

After you stop laughing it becomes rather sad.

I honestly believe that this is not what it looks like. I think he was going to rush out of the way and then just got caught up. Look from the top angle:

For all you guys that dont know the positioning of college officals. The umpire, if he reads pass has to fight the bigs guys to get to the LOS. Because the LJ and HL could have already released and gone down field. If its a run pass, he has to look at all the lineman at one time to make sure everything is legal. When the piles move then he and the ref will "clean up" as the other officals will move with the pile. Guys its a tough job. Out of all the officals on the field. The umpire is the only one that has to move around 22 running players on the field. Next game look at him. He has to be aware of the play and the players around him.
So lay off the guy! You couldnt do it yourself!

Your damn right i couldn't do that.. that qb would plow over me if I'd tried to just shoulder tackle him..

I'm sorry but that ref had plenty of outs in that play he actually sized up the run and hit him. if you can't see that.. maybe you should apply for an SEC Ref job.

It's obvious he did it on purpose. He slid to his right to get in front of Garcia. He didn't move to his left or back peddle. He watched the play move his way and took his shot. I'm not buying that crap of him having to watch the line either, because you never see him check the blocks or anything.

I disagree. He had TONS of field on his left. Why did he continue to run TOWARD and FACING the player.

I am not saying he should be fired but the guy was MORE than "just bracing for it". The first time I saw it I could not believe my own eyes. No matter what the outcome, the ref clearly tackled the guy. There is no telling what his intent was (if any) but he did tackle the USC player. Watch it again man, he LUNGES at the player before the player is even within a foot of him. He waited, sized up and tackled a player on the field while having plenty of room to avoid the collision. It is inexcusable.

Hey dont confuse me with the facts. I want to believe that SEC refs cheat and this is the proof. So dont come around with that lame fact stuff. That ref is from N.O. Someone got a picture of him floating beer in a tub during Katrina!

QB or not, if a player is heading at me with full gear...I'd give him the shoulder too.

Did'nt look like he was going at him to me. It looked as if the ref stepped into the play and then threw the shoulder...giving just enough time for LSU's defenders to catch up. The Mad Hatter has to do whatever he can to win these days without CNS's recruits..HA.

wouldnt you step into the hit also?

I can't read the guy's mind, but I think some of you guys that are defending the ref on this play obviously missed something a little later on. I haven't seen it on any of the replays, but when I watching the game live, that ref gave Garcia some dirty looks. CBS clearly got good pics of his face. I could be wrong, but I think he did it on purpose. If anyone else has that on Tivo or anything, watch the plays afterward, he had a look on his face that was like, "come on, do come near me again, and I'll do it again."

I noticed that too. I think it was intentional. He meant to tackle him.

You're looking from behind zebra striped glasses. No one is saying an umpire's job is easy, but IMO, that looked like no accident.
