| MBB/WBB đźŹ€ Players Era Festival Championship Game 🏀 : No. 9/9 Alabama Falls to Oregon, 83-81, in Championship Game

D was not close to being as impactful as last night. In all fairness those two freshmen for Rutgers are really good. Harper was Brandon Miller like smooth and will be one of the top draft picks. The effort on the boards and offense won this game. It sure was not because we took care of the ball. Get a blowout win if any one of the D, free throws or turnovers were better. At least they are hitting free throws down the stretch when it matters. A two man team almost beat Bama.

Dioubate, Reid, and Nelson are the hardest players on this squad. If the others could buy in to the effort they have on D, we'd be a lock for a Final Four. But stupid ass turnovers and poor effort by others on D hold us back.
Indeed... What is the deal with the Rutgers center transfer? I was expecting much more out of him than we have seen We are going to need him to show up at some point this season.

These Bama games thus far have had zero flow... it;s white, whistle, whistle, on most every trip down the court. Sone of that is on Bama, because they aren't real good at playing physical without fouling. Sone of it is a product of the style these teams have played. But a lot of it is just whistle happy officials who act like they are getting paid by the foul.

Wrightsell isn't getting nearly enough shots up.

Glad Stevenson FINALLY knocked the lid off the basket... he was giving Bama nothing so far.

Sears has been playing a bit too much hero ball IMO, especially considering he's just not real dialed in right now in any phase.

Way too many turnovers again... Holloway is about the only player I trust with the ball right now.

Speaking of, Rutgers had 23 points off of turnovers. 30 points from the line.

Philon has had a rough couple of days, but I bet it makes him better. Not worried about him.

Nelson is so weak at the rim sometimes... embarrassingly weak. Passing up that dunk for the miss layup, or whatever that was... SAD!

Dioubate has (kinda quietly) carved himself out an important role within this team. He makes the most of his minutes.

That Harper kid is going to make some real good money playing basketball.

Might not be fair to say this since the sample size has been small and most of the teams have been pretty legit, but it just feels like Bama is playing to the level of the opponent thus far, outside of the home opener. But, I'd much rather them scratch and claw early than peak this early.

Easy to forget that Youngblood is still lingering in the on deck circle.... I'm not completely sure what to expect when he joins the team, especially the first few games, but I'm certainly looking forward to seeing it.

He has been the most consistent player so far this year. Playing at a very high level. Almost had back to back double/double. Bama does not win the last two games w/o him. Hoping his effort and blue collor mentatlity rub of on others soon. These guys with Dioubate leading the way have killed it on the boards which has mask some of the difficulties with the offensive flow.

I don't get this question. He's started every game, likely right behind Nelson on defensive boards, putting in about a half a game and spelled by Mo.

I guess my expectation for him was he was going to be a dominant inside presence that would free up Nelson to play his more natural position. He has not been as impactful as I was expecting inside. He has also not been able to defend w/o fouling which has limited him in some games. Diaubonte has been more effectve and maybe the MVP so far..

A couple of days rest should help get their legs back after a couple of physical games. One thing I have noticed to date is we are doing a better job of attacking the glass, instead of a stand around and hope it comes to me. As for the defense, not really sure how much is laziness or the fact that the officials change what is or isn’t a foul every single possession. Forgot who said it earlier, but there has been no flow with a whistle being blown EVERY SINGLE TIME DOWN THE FLOOR.

Great to see the program is at a place where they win and know they did not play up to the "standard". Press conference sounded almost like a loss... This great because it means the standard has been raised.

Oats is definitely not happy with how the D is playing. He was really animated after Rutgers cut the lead to 3 when we were up 9. It just sucks because you see the intensity the D had vs Houston and you know what this team is capable of doing. They all need to buy in collectively. Can't just be three players every game.

Turnovers need to be reduced in a big way. Very questionable drives and lazy passes.

Still really early in the season though. I don't know what buttons Oats and Brian Adams are going to push, but the D will (hopefully) get better. But I know Oats doesn't sit around and allow something to linger. Last season the D was bad because of roster limitations inside. Now we have two talented rim protectors and a ton of length. No reason for the defense to constantly being getting beat.

What's the standard?!
Well I would say it was just make the tournament. Oats has raised that to get to one of the top seeds and elite 8/final 4 levels. Can he consistently get them that deep in the tournament and take the progam to a Natty? Never been done as you know. Historicallly the standard was make the tournament and on occasion sweet 16. This was all before the 20+ years run where they were really pathetic and hit or miss to even make the tournament.
