due to the fact that Penn State appears to be the media darling. I heard a broadcaster on ESPNRadio this morning say that Penn State was sitting at #3 continuing their stalking of #2 Alabama. I'm not taking anything away from Penn State but Bama is the better team no question. If Texas, Bama and P.State end the season undefeated I feel we'll probably get hosed somewhat like the Barn did a few years ago. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. Just don't feel good about it.............

I just don't see it happening as long as Bama wins out. People love Penn State right now...but they'll be forgotten when they don't play a conference title game...if not before. The only way they get in is if Bama or Texas lose...and they still might not get in if say either a 1-loss Georgia or Florida run the table and win the SEC.

Bama wins out and Penn St is not even close to jumping us! NOT EVEN CLOSE

It's simply mathematically impossible using the BCS formula.

It was Auburn's schedule that kept them from a berth in 2004. Seven of the eleven teams they faced in 2004 had losing records.

Right now, seven of the nine wins Penn State has are against teams with losing records.

The BCS formula kept Auburn out in '04, and rightfully so. That same formula will keep Penn State out, and rightfully so. (assuming 3 undefeated teams)

You can't compare us to the Barn. The Barn couldn't play in the SECCG that year. Had they played and won, they would've been in the BCSCG IMO. It's apples and oranges. We win out, we're in.

Couldn't play in the SECCG? Didn't they beat Tennessee by 10? Not saying they deserved the NC bid, but this one confuses me.

I agree with Terry. Using the formula, if we have 3 undefeated teams, Penn State is left out. I believe of their remaining games only Michigan State has a winning record. We have LSU and then either Georgia again or Florida in the SEC title game. Texas would also have a better opponents won/loss record as opposed to Penn State.

Let me add this though, the AP could end up splitting the title and giving theirs to Penn State while the Texas/Alabama winner is recognized as the BCS winner. The Barn would again win the "who gives a s*** national champion.

Here is how it goes......Bama and Texas take care of business and go to the BCSCG. Penn State finishes it's schedule and goes to the Rose bowl to face USC. The winners of both those games become champions. ala 2003. Split. Because the BCS is garbage.

In that case, it would only be a split IF the AP ranked USC #1, because they would beat PSU by 3 touchdowns.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why everyone thinks PSU is that good. :?

While I have long been a proponent of a championship playoff system, in this scenario the BCS would have done its job by identifying and matching up the two teams who would play for the NC.

Yep, I'd much rather be the one playing on Jan 8th than on New Years.

Exactly right!!! The Rose Bowl is Pac-10/Big 10(11) only!!! They can have it!!! I don't see a split though.

Bama and TX win out, they meet in Miami!!!

PSU's Schedule
at Iowa
vs. Indiana
vs. Michigan State

How does this schedule allow PSU jump a Bama team that beats the Defending National Champion on its own field, 2 more SEC teams, Arkansas State, and then the winning of the SEC West? (5 more wins to their 3 more.)

Seriously, how could a group of voters come to that decision. They can't and they won't.

We just need to keep winning and "The Game" will take care of itself. My prediction is Michigan St. upsets Penn. St. the last week of the season anyway.

One thing that I think is important to point out (and it's something that gets lost a lot in the AU snub talk) is this;

AU was NOWHERE among the preseason elite that year. You say, "well BAMA was not this year either", and that's true.

Here's the difference.

BAMA has fought their way up to the #2 slot with the help of teams losing.

AU never made it to #2 because Oklahoma never lost. Oklahoma was the preseason....season-long #2 team in the nation. AU had no chance to play in the championship game based on that alone.

We still rely on the polls to a degree. And BAMA holding the #2 slot carries a little more weight that some realize IMHO.
