| FTBL Penn State Will Jump Alabama In the Polls...................

Could definitely happen. Tech beats Texas, Oklahoma takes care of Tech ... If Penn St. goes undefeated they probably jump Bama on the "media darling" thing but it's still Bama and PSU for the BCSCG. Bottom line: if Bama wins out, they are assured a shot at the BCSCG. No one will deny that.

Here is how it goes......Bama and Texas take care of business and go to the BCSCG. Penn State finishes it's schedule and goes to the Rose bowl to face USC. The winners of both those games become champions. ala 2003. Split. Because the BCS is garbage.

While I have long been a proponent of a championship playoff system, in this scenario the BCS would have done its job by identifying and matching up the two teams who would play for the NC.

I do find it funny that if Alabama/Texas wins out the conference so against a playoff will get the shaft. I bet heads will roll in the Big 10 office

I would much rather play a Big 12 team in the BCS..... The SEC has already made enough of a statement on how bad the Big 10 sucks... now we need to start working on the Big 12 :)

I agree with a lot of people about the fact that if we win and win the SEC title we will be in the Nat Champ Game. PSU does not have a conf title game we do thats a big factor mainly because it will be a win over florida who is a top 5-10 team.

I think many of us are concerned that we will have to eat crow due to the all the hell we gave Allbarn for not making it to the MBCSNCG (mythical BCS national championship game) back a few years ago. I for one don't think it can happen. If we win out, we won't be jumped. That SECCG will assure of that. So, end of story if we win out. That's a big IF.

However, if Bama were to lose, say at LSU or in the SECCG, which is a real possibility, then we would have played a near perfect season, and possibly end up being 12-1. 11-2, we don't get consideration. But at 12-1, I can still make an argument that we should get in before an undefeated Penn State due to our strength of schedule, and that extra game.

To me, it's senseless to be able to make a decision on who plays for the title, for all the marbles, considering that some of the main eligible candidates don't play a conference title. It's just not comparing apples to oranges. It's like saying: Well, the Titans deserve to go to the Super Bowl without the playoff games because they beat the Colts and played an undefeated schedule. Doesn't make sense does it?

Hopefully, we'll get a shot at Florida in the SEC Championship. If that happens, there won't be any question about who should play in the Big Dance.

Exiled, the thing with that IMHO, is that (1) a lot of people are dismissing the SOS issue alltogether. The only people addressing it (outside the SEC) are stating that the SOS's are similar and about even. Wisconsin is being labeled PSU's "Clemson win". (1) There's a lot of bias against Alabama. If there wasn't we wouldn't be flipping out about the possibility of PSU jumping us even if we're undefeated. (3) We're not LSU. Last year's LSU team (even though they lost twice) was still considered by many to be flat LOADED. Arguably the most talented team in the country. That makes them the attractive option. The SEC strength argument helped them a ton too. PSU is looked at as the attractive option this year, not BAMA.

Bamas fate is in their own hands, if we win out were in regardless of anything else. Penn St. hardest game of the year is over and they barely squeaked by. If anything Penn St. stock should drop in the remaining games they play, even if they blow them out, which they should. Alabama on the other hand has the defending MNC championship team to play LSU. An Auburn team, though not doing so hot, is our instate rival who we have not beat for 6 years that will have to count for something. Then we will have to play in the SECCG and will probally be facing a #5 ranked georgia/florida (USC will drop in rankings also, their schedule simply doesn't allow them to gain ground which will boost 1 of them teams up after this week.) Penn St. only significant game left and last game this year is #21 Michigan St. after that they will be setting at home watching on the couch as we play Auburn and the SECCG.

Worry yourself if you like, but our fate is in our on hands.

I suggest that we go undefeated and win the SECCG, then if get screwed out of the NCG we can whine about how we got screwed out of a shot at the title. Until then...

There are a number of reasons that PSU jumping Bama is not likely.

If Bama goes undefeated, we will have beaten:

Top 10 UGA
SEC E Champ top 10
Top 15/20 LSU

The only win PSU has over a team currently ranked in the top 25, is a narrow win over an Ohio State team that USC blew out. Michigan State is the only top 25 team PSU has left, and they are a 2 loss team.

Our current schedule rank is 45 according to Sagarin. PSU is 64.

We will have finished the season with 13 wins against all FBS teams. Penn State at 12-0 will only have 11 wins over FBS teams.

Florida is being perceived as a juggernaut right now. If they beat UGA and win the east and we beat them, the perception of our team will skyrocket.

Honestly, PSU kind of resembles AU 2004 right now. They have blown a bunch of weak teams out of the water, and they played an out of conference team that is ranked 178 by Sagarin. That hurts them like Citadel hurt Auburn.

I just don't see any way that Bama goes undefeated and PSU jumps us. It is not justifiable - even if we will the rest of our games by 1 point each.

If PSU does not make the BCSCG, I think they will end up against USC in the Rose Bowl and get drilled...ending their chance of whining about being passed over.

Looking at PSU's schedule, I am surprised it is rated as highly as it is.
Coastal Carolina, Temple, Syracuse, Purdue, and Michigan combined have 6 wins over D1A teams.

Here are the records of the 4 worst FBS teams on PSU's schedule so far:

Michigan 2-6
Purdue 2-6
Temple 3-4
Syracuse 1-6

They have these left to play:

Iowa 4-3 (will probably finish with a losing record)
Indiana 3-5 (will have a losing record)
and Michigan State, who is 7-2.

Based on the caliber of their opposition, I just don't see it. We have played some teams with poor records as well, but Temple, Cuse, and a D1AA team trump what we got...and Michigan and Purdue are bad, no matter what their names are.

Of course, Michigan State could help us out and end the discussion. Given the teams that we both have left to play, there is just no way that PSU can jump us.

LSU + Auburn + Florida/UGA > Iowa + Indiana + Michigan State

sorry to rain on everyones parade. But you guys are talking about something that has yet to happen.
WE NEED TO WIN THE GAMES FIRST!!! THEN WE CAN TALK ABOUT THE MAYBE'S.

Go to sleep.

That way, you don't have to deal with life except when you wake up at game time, and we can talk about whatever we want without some nonsense that we as fans should only focus on the next game. That is a pile of garbage.

The coaches and players need to focus on the next game...we need to focus on being fans and cheering, but if we want to discuss other issues, we can...otherwise we would need to shut this and every other board down. Talking about next week's game and nothing else is (1) boring and (2) stupid.
