🏈 Our DBs

Has anyone else been disappointed with our DB play when playing man? I haven't been able to watch all of every game so far this season, but it seems I've noticed a lot of pass interference by our guys. Covering LSU's top 3 WRs could be a tall order. I see the play of Lewis being critical in this game.

I think the corners have been the strength of the secondary. The middle of the secondary including carter has had more issues. Seems like OC's are trying to get their best match up with our safeties or Carter in dime. Also they try to get match ups against our LB's.

We have solid corners... Only issue there is in trying to be too physical they have drawn some penalties. But all in all, not many (if any) duo's I'd trade for those guys.

It's the others that are concerning. Carter played better last game but yes, he's the obvious corner to go at. Mayden is a mess, and Battle is just young and green.

Just a matter of limiting mistakes and making that dude beat us with great throws. Limit penalties and coverage breakdowns and hopefully the front 4 has a night!

Looks like the OC's are really focusing on getting the RB matched up with #35 in coverage. I know that is a tough match up for almost any D.

What helps more than anything with coverage issues is getting more pressure on the QB. ALL QB's including Tua are less accurate with continuous pressure. Make them feel uncomfortable and watch how much better our secondary looks.

With that said the last two games the D overall has been much better, albeit against so so teams.

Can Bama hold LSU to around 35-38? Can Bama score 38-40? This will be more like a Big 12 game. #5,#21 are the weakest links in the secondary. The LSU QB gets the ball off pretty quick so getting to him will be a problem. The play of #8 and #35 don't bode well for Bama's defense as well.(passing coverage). LSU has a big ole TE that might hurt us if they do elect to do feature him.

The key will be getting Burrow off his point. Getting pressure with T Lewis, Jennings, Davis, and Barmore to sack him, move him around, make him feel uncomfortable. Jennings ABUSED their RT last year and I look for more of the same from him and T Lewis. LSwho gives up roughly 2 sacks a game. Make Burrow uncomfortable and our DBs won't have time to get beat.

As far as the penalties go. Hand fighting and hand checking is much like holding these days. It's called once or twice in an attempt to persuade the DBs to cut it out. It goes on the entire game and on every snap from every school.

There will be a quiz so take notes. It is my hope that Loseranna State will be full of themselves when they arrive in Titletown. Then maybe when things don't go well for them early and all that bravado whitecaps them. It would be great if Bama can get ahead by 7 and make LSU have to play from behind in this game. Making them kick FG's would be great.

All the blame cannot be put on our corners, they have played pretty solid all year. The problem stems from the DL not getting consistent pressure on the QB (this has improved in the last few games) and playing 2 true freshmen at ISLB. Are we as good on defense as we have been in the past, no, not in my opinion but I do not think it is all on the corners.

Yeah, if we win the toss, take the ball and make them play catch up.

I don't know. Saban probably would try and defer to 2nd half... that way if they score before 1st half and then get a chance to score after getting the ball back...

Also our issues with secondary was that they were doing lot of holdings. they cleaned it up and now are much better.

Our corners are the strength of our defense in my opinion. Battle is going to be a stud and will be starting over Mayden sooner rather than later. Mayden is the weakest link back there and its not really technique as it is just speed. He just isnt fast enough to cover. Everyone has tried to match up there best wide out against Carter in nickel because he is 5'9 but don't get it twisted Carter is a solid, sound and physical player and while targeted often here is rarely beaten.
Lee and Harris struggle in making reads and frequently overrun/miss tackles because they are out of position. It doesnt help that every OC in the league is taking turns trying to attack them a new and creative ways.. at some point if they are learning from what they see.. they will be very hard to fool. Physically they very gifted players.

I think a healthy Jennings and Lewis make burrows to have to throw on the run but we need to devote a spy to him. His scrambling ability is underrated as he is a tough runner and is sneaky athletic. Reminds me of Jake Coker type scrambles.

They're physical, which is a good thing, but sometimes it's too much. Diggs had a pick-six wiped out because he got the pick by pulling the receiver back by his jersey. I would say despite them making some mental errors here and there Diggs and Surtain are easily the strength of the defense. McKinney and Shy Carter have been extremely disappointing - primarily with missed tackles - and either busted assignments or just getting beaten. Like others have said, pass rush will be the key to slowing LSU down. Can Jennings and Lewis - among all the other five stars on that line/backers - actually play to their potential? I have my doubts about that.
