TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's basketball returns to Coleman Coliseum to face Jackson State, who is coached by Alabama great Mo Williams. This is the Tide's final non-conference game before tipping off SEC play starting on Dec. 28 at Mississippi State.

The Broadcast​

Saturday's game is set for a 6 p.m. tipoff and will be aired on the SEC Network with Dave Neal (play-by-play) and Daymeon Fishback (analyst) on the call.

The radio broadcast can be heard on the Crimson Tide Sports Network with Chris Stewart (play-by-play) and Bryan Passink (analyst) on the call, while Tom Stipe (engineer) is turning the dials. The pregame show will begin one hour prior to tipoff.

  • A win over Jackson State would give Alabama 10 wins during the non-conference season for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

About Jackson State​

  • Mo Williams was named head basketball coach at Jackson State University on March 14, 2022.
  • Williams joins the program after two seasons at Alabama State University. During Williams' time with the Hornets, ASU went 13-35 overall with a 12-24 record in conference play.
  • Williams entered the coaching ranks at Cal-State Northridge as an assistant coach under his former college coach Mark Gottfried, who Williams played for at Alabama. Cal State Northridge led the Big West Conference in scoring in both seasons, setting school records for three-point field goals made, field goals made, fewest turnovers, and blocked shots.
  • The Southwestern Athletic Conference tabbed Jackson State's Coltie Young and Trace Young for SWAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors on Dec. 6 for their outstanding performances in the Tigers' win over SMU.
  • Jackson State MBB was picked seventh in the 2022-2023 Southwestern Athletic Conference Preseason Poll after finishing with an overall record of 11-9, and held a 9-9 conference play.
  • At the end of the 2021 season, former coach Wayne Brent retired after nine seasons. During his career, Brent led JSU to a 20-win season, a SWAC regular-season co-championship, a berth in the SWAC Tournament finals, and a victory in the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament.
 
This is one of those games I wish Welch was healthy for and could get extensive minutes. But I would like to see JQ get his shot back (or at least start to be better mentally) and get Griffen and Pringle more minutes to develop.
 
What is this mess we are watching? Do these guys even practice to clean up turnovers? These guys have digressed some since Burnett went down with an injury. Jackson State is 1-10 and within 10 points with under 7:00 minutes to play. Hopefully this trend does not continue.
