🏈 🔎 PRE-GAME discussion~ Wisconsin: Horton, Dewberry, and Brown interviews from Tuesday

Ty Simpson struggled mightily when Alabama football lost its Week 1 game at Florida State. He made poor decisions, and took far too long to do so.

The redshirt junior understood after that game that his performance wasn’t good enough, even going so far as to apologize to the Crimson Tide’s leadership group. Then, Saturday against ULM, he looked much better, going 17-for-17 passing, throwing for three touchdowns and running for another, all in the first half of the 73-0 blowout.

On Monday, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb was asked where he saw the most improvement from Simpson, game-to-game.

“Decision making,” Grubb said. “I thought he was extremely decisive. He was very dialed on his reads. He didn’t pass up open players. I thought he played great. I thought he was really, really into the game plan all week and I was really hopeful that he was gonna play very, very well.”

The Alabama staff decided before the game to let Austin Mack take a first-half series. Kalen DeBoer noted Monday that he feels competition brings out the best in every player, including Simpson.

The coaches were impressed with how the Tennessee native dealt with the move.

“Just attacked it, kind of dug in, focused more on himself,” Grubb said of Simpson. “The toughest part about playing quarterback is not letting outside influences, whether it’s another quarterback, someone from outside the program, affect the way you prepare. I thought Ty was elite at that this week. He just dove into the preparation and did a great job.”

After the ULM blowout, Alabama is back to Power 4 competition this week. The Crimson Tide faces Wisconsin Saturday, at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Simpson told reporters after beating up on the Warhawks that he had asked coaches to be harder on him moving forward. Grubb said that was the plan on Monday.

“That’s not surprising,” Grubb said. “That’s something that Ty certainly shared with me as well. That was something I told him after the first game was, I told you everybody on the team’s got to look inward, what we can own. I thought maybe I wasn’t hard enough on Ty. I didn’t harden him enough for the moment in the first week and I told him I wouldn’t make that mistake again.”

Alabama and Wisconsin are scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. CT Saturday in Tuscaloosa. The game will be aired on ABC.
He got no help either. That game is not squarely on his shoulders. Now he didn’t play well, but for it to be put “on him” is not very accurate.

Was thinking similarly…was the reason we looked so good on offense because “glamor” boy was not dressed?
Sometimes things just click without the “super star”.
FSU back when Peter Warrick was all world, and the best offensive player they had their offense was better without him.
Now RW is a stud, but to say this offense can’t be “better” without him is yet to be seen.
He was awful against FSU….

For the guys wanting RW on the bench, pump the brakes. He will likely move to the outside WR position from the slot before he meets the sidelines. Just my two cents, but some guys aren’t cut out for going over the middle as opposed to others. You keep Horton outside and swap Bernard and Williams. Bernard has some dog in him and he isn’t afraid of contact.

Ty Simpson should have never apologized!.. Florida State found out in short order that he did not have any pass protection or a real O line... Florida State smelled blood in the water the whole game.. Ty Simpson was helpless... and we still don't know if that problem is fixed yet..

Williams only wants big flashy plays... he wants to avoid contact... He doesn't want stuff on crossing or into the heart of the defense... He wants to catch long bombs running free.. if they want anything from him, that's where they're going to have to use him..

If the final score was identical to the LSU game this past week, nary a soul would be saying things like this.

Well over 90 percent of the teams in football wouldn't have recorded that score against ULM.
I will say this anytime Bama has success and they get a lot of positive press until a CKD team at Bama shows they can handle it by playing at a constistently high level througout the season. 5-5 record and 2-5 on the road will do that for me.... Results on the field matter more than what people are saying on here or in the media.

Ill be honest with all of you. I'm pretty fucking done with all these guys talking, and promising shit all the time. We've heard this before from other players last season, and before this season. I'm not gonna believe it until they show me on the field.
Completely agree.... Talk is cheap... Honestly I have stopped listening to video interviews with the players. First one I have done in awhile was Simpson yesterday. For that matter I do not listen to the coordinators either.

This stuff seems odd to me. Why are the coaches not coaching this way all the time W/O having to be ask?

I think RW is an elite player just like we all think he is ... Give the kid some time to adjust to a new position/role. Everyone expects immediate results which is not typically going to happen, Also some context here, do you think RW would have looked much better against ULM with a much better protected QB which resulted in a much more comfortable and confident Simpson? Of course he would have...
