🏈 🔎 - Looking ahead to South Carolina...

@Brandon Van de Graaff, this is the game I've been a little worried about as well. Bama always has trouble with mobile quarterbacks. I think Bama could have lost this game last year if it were in Columbia. You said Shula was holding Sellers back. Is he holding the OL back? I've seen so many highlights where the OL is getting shredded and Sellers is panicking.

Their OL coach got ditched a week ago... there was some thought (hope?) that sliding Shawn Elliot (former GA St. HC and former OL coach) into that spot would light a spark. And maybe to some degree it did... OU only had 2 sacks. But, the Sooners also had 13 QB hurries. I saw very little of that game though, certainly not enough to tell if the OL was any better. I assume they are what they are at this point.

Time to shift focus on to SC game.
When Comparing SC with rest of SEC Teams...

Scoring Offense- Dead Last (#16) at 20.1 points per game.
Scoring Defense- Ranked #8 tied with TN, Florida and Vandy at 20 points per game.

That can't be right.

Rushing Offense- Dead last.
Rushing Defense- #12 at 150 yards per game.

There is no reason for Alabama to struggle to run the ball.

Passing Offense #14 @191 yards per game.
Passing Defense #4 186.1 yards per game. (Alabama is #2 )

Time of Possessions:
Alabama #2 at 33.34 minutes.
SC #15 at 27:03 minutes.

Third Downs:
SC: 31/93, converting to 33 percent (YIKES) Alabama is right there at 50 percent.

Now, this is where it get little confusing:
SC is #2 in forced fumbles at 8, averaging 1.14 per game.

It's simple: Run the damn ball.

I hope Hill will be the one running the ball. Let Jam rest some more just to make sure he will be OKAY during the later games.

You're missing the elephant in the room. UofSC is allowing opponents to convert on third down just under 45% of the time.

Bama's situation is getting better by the week (37% currently.) After allowing 17 conversions in their first three games they allowed 13 in their last four games (against whom, some might ask. :devilish: )

A key:

You look at OU's offense and it's "Mateer's injury" that comes to mind. He wasn't himself against Texas. He wasn't bad against UofSC (though no one is writing home about his 150 passing yards.)

I'd say look at LSU offense but there's no need. You know what I'll say.

When both of these teams played UofSC they were moving the ball. They weren't converting at Bama's pace. I heard a guy from Fanduel say both teams were averaging over six yards a play against UofSC. I'd already looked at that ... it was more like five. But still.

UofSC held OU to two points less than their season average, LSU to five less.

Away games like this, in the middle of the season, after consecutive, emotional victories, with heavy doses of rat poison on top, is cause for concern. The best thing we can do in this game is to RUN THE DAMN BALL, play keep away, shorten the game, and don’t turn it over. Despite seeing small improvements in the run game, I still think we may need to keep passing to set up the run until the 2nd half.

They aren't good when it comes to their defense getting a "3 and out." That looks to go hand in hand with something we talked about last week, or maybe Mizzou week, about the success Bama was getting, per drive, to get in a scoring position.

Anyone selling tickets cheaper than Seat Geek in the lower bowl by any chance?
I intended on coming back to this yesterday.

You know this weekend is Homecoming? I suppose there's a way to have a Homecoming game at the Fairgrounds...not quite sure how they pull that off. I'm sure they will; 'cocks, after all.

If you want a picture of the Bama section, tailgating, take a mental snap shot of a a bunch of RV's parked at the airport. It's a concrete jungle.

Been to Columbia once before (for a football game) for a Georgia-South Carolina game about 15 years ago this year. My wife was seven and a half months pregnant and handled that 95 degree early September game like a champ. The fans were some of the worse I have ever come across. My wife almost got ran over at the stadium by an old geezer booster driving within the confines of the stadium. Then when I smashed his hood with my fist I had some other tough guy wanting a piece, so we squabbled. Made it back home, but it was a shitty experience in a shitty atmosphere like you stated. Absolutely zero right by the stadium and a bunch of jerk fans.

In the '05 season it wasn't a bad trip. We went up early Friday (RV) for an alumni group thing we had planned for Saturday. Overall, it's a nice memory.

But, that comes with some caveats. I didn't realize the RV parking was with a football field of the livestock areas. Granted, they were empty and clean, but it was just...in a word, weird. This was before they went into their "renovation" stage around the stadium. (It's still the fairgrounds, but has curbs and a few trees.)

I don't like off campus stadiums. As to WBS? I doubt I'll go again unless on someone's dime in the Cabooses.

This makes for an interesting silly season. Beamer is in a unique situation. If VT still wants him to "come home". Does he take the deal and run. Get about a 3-4 year reprieve and try to do at VT what he has done at USCe? If they don't come calling, I could see him harnessing his inner Tommy Tubberville and using Shula as his sacrificial lamb along with a few others on the coaching staff in order to buy some time amongst the fans. If you're the HC and the fan base is calling for staff/assistants heads and not your own.....probably a good thing.

IMO, he’s going to ditch Shula and revamp the offensive staff. On the VT job, he’s told people behind closed doors that he isn’t interested and doesn’t want to coach in his dad’s shadow (in so many terms). He wants to basically hold his own legacy. I think maybe if things got bad enough down the road, VT would be a very safe landing spot, but he really apparently wants to avoid that. He’s also in a pretty good contract situation right now, as far as leverage for his end, so he’s pretty safe I think. But I definitely expect he will have to make staff changes.
