| LIFE CV-19: Effects on life, work, and sports

The perfect storm is approaching. The “summer of discontent” so to say. People are already agitated, big cities suffering from lack of services. The left coast starts its rolling blackouts that miss wealthy areas. How far will the Feds allow protests to go? Riot police? America is an gnats hair from being a police state.

I hope we find ourselves feeling much better about this on Independence Day.

The thing is, we almost had to base every thing on worst case scenario models. There are large swaths of this country that have zero hospitals. The fear that our medical system would collapse if something like what happened with Italy occurred was legit. You're definitely right that a one size fits all approach can't work. People in Birmingham are much, much more tightly compacted and right on top of each other than those in Luverne where it's much more dense. The problem with that, though, is if you just say "Okay we're going to leave this all up to the mayor's and counties to handle it" is there is surely going to end up being some hot spots out there in places that decided to do little to nothing and then it spreads elsewhere. I think Plano said it before, we won't truly know if we over or under played this thing until a year or so down the line. I still personally think if we had acted smarter and quicker in the beginning that it wouldn't have been something that has gone on as long as it has, but that's just my opinion.

Two points from the highlighted text. The first aligns with the one size fits all approach mentality. The parts of the country that do not have the infrastructure should take different measures than the ones that do not. The 2nd point, some central entity knows more than the local guys? My opinion is you should absolutely leave it up to the local agencies with influence from the Governor and federal guidance. They were elected by the people in that area and it is on them to do what the people in that area think they want. Yes you would have some cases that spread to adjacent counties. That is where the Governor may need to come in and mediate or it may very well get policed by the people that are being impacted.

My 2 cents for what it is worth. BTW some of this comes down to my belief in individual accountability and responsibility and belief that a central entity like the Federal Government is not the answer. I see the latter happen all the time in a business. When you have a structure like this you do not get the best decision made because the central organization is to far away from the local level and so they do not know what is best for their situation.

I'm further dumbfounded... They're wanting to protect prisoners by releasing them? And the lawsuits that happen when a single prisoner harms/kills someone? The Washington state Supreme Court voted 5-4...yeah, 1 vote away. This happened about 10 days go (I'm late to the party), glad 5 people with sense voted on the right side of this.
