I can't post a link due to the copyrights but you can access Rivals and check out the article they have up on him now. It's been edited and the info was added in.

Apparently they're saying Applewhite will accept and the official announcement will be made after the required 5-day waiting period.

What is this 5-day waiting period, chop? Muschamp interviewed and announced shorter than 5 days.

but the job had been open before the interview took place (I believe). The job has to be open for 5 days, not 5 days between the time the interview takes place and the announcement.

Delta, I thought it had something to do with the employment guidelines for state employees. I'm not familiar with it either. But didn't the Muschamp hiring take about a week? ;scr I can't remember.

What I'm gathering by reading though is that there only has to be a 5-day window between firing/hiring. Applewhite could officially interview the day after a firing is made but the official hiring cannot take place for another 4 days. So whether or not anyone is actually interviewing you still have to wait a full business week before a hiring is made.

Or something like that.

That's my take as well. The job was already open.

If I'm not mistaken Muschamp was "hired" only two days after the job became open. What happened is that Mack offered him the job, he took it, then resigned his position at Auburn, and then had to wait for the 5 days to be up before he was officially hired.

I assume the same would happen with CMA. One way or another I think we'll know something shortly.

I'm wondering If Mark Hudspeth from UNA would get a look? I heard ramblings last year that he may have been under consideration before MA got the job.

LOL, if that's true then I will start praying now that this does not happen.

If it happens, fine. Bad move for him. He's back to TX and will regret it. Just means I never liked TX and now have a reason. If I remember he was not brilliant this year for us.

I think if he's gone, It's gonna be a bad move for us, no doubt, in spite of his first year wasn't successful at all. Until this moment, I don't like anything Applewhite's phylosophy and some calls along the year... but having to find a new offensive coordinator is never the best thing for a team like us that is involved in a rebuilding process. We need some stability, working hard and believing in a project with a view of some years, and not to stop & star every year...

RTR,

Major Applewhite

Goodbye and good luck to you. You are still a Bama fan at heart, and with a name like yours it doesn't matter where you coach, you cannot change your name. Keep the faith. Your name is a tribute to the greatest team.

Keep in mind that NEVER has Saban had the same staff for two consecutive years. Sometimes his assistants receive promotions to other programs and staffs; sometimes he fires assistants; sometimes he encourages assistants to pursue other options; sometimes assistants tell him to stick-it. But the only stable or consistent thing regarding a Saban staff is someone will be gone and someone will be new each and every year.

If, as we hear rumors of, Saban will be quick to announce a new hire once Applewhite is announced at Texas (some have said a replacement will be announced before the weekend on-campus recruiting visits), then something tells me this possible move probably falls under the 'encouraged to pursue other options' category. Just my personal supposition mind you.

In all honesty, this really doesn't bother me all too much. I like CMA, but you had to expect some changes of the staff with CNS at the helm of the program. Its pretty common with the programs that he has run.

Just looking at it from CMA's point of view realistically, it's not like his offense was really given a chance to operate at it's full capacity; and dealing with a guy like CNS may not be worth the pressure and scrutiny if you don't have complete control of the offense. In other words, if you don't have final say in whats going on you might as well find a situation where you won't be judged as if you did.

I'm not saying that's what happened as if I have some inside information, but I've been in similar situations and this seems awfully familiar to me. In those situations for me, the conversation usually went along the lines of me saying "you hired me to do a particular job, if you're not going to allow me the freedom to do the job the way I need to, one of two things are going to happen. #1- I need to stop taking the heat for decisions that are not mine or, #2- I'm need to find somewhere else to be.

To add to it an opportunity comes up with his alma mater (which makes the transition, I guess the best word I can think of is excusable) in a place he's comfortable and with a culture that he knows and is comfortable with. It becomes an easy move to make, you would also now have a job title that actaully fits the level of responsibility that he's been given.

I still think CMA has a bright future and will be a really successful head coach, but it may be at Texas instead of UA, only time will tell. But for now we don't need to doubt that CNS will competently find someone to fill to OC role, the man can draw seriously talented coaches and players to his programs and in the end we will have some if not better than CMA at least equally as good. I like CMA, but hey, the SEC is a high stakes game and sometimes people you like can't stick around. I interested to see where CMA is in five or six years, and I wish him the best of luck.

Will be interesting to see the reason for CMA's departure. If CNS instigated this and wanted him out then I wont hold it against CMA. On the flip side, if CMA wasnt here for the long haul then he's Sorry. He knew coming in what we are trying to rebuild here. To rebuild you need stability and that involves time. Sometimes in the rebuilding phase you can run into obstacles and maybe CMA was just one of those. I hope in the end CNS wanted him out so I can keep a positive opinion on CMA. Regardless of the reasons this is still a black eye here at recruiting season.
