Curt Cignetti was recruiting coordinator at Alabama and his IU team reminded me of Bama teams of old. I know we hire some of the best coaches out there. Maybe the coaches are saying, “I know he has (choose whatever flaw) but I can fix it. He is so talented.” Talent can only take you so far and if we are blinded by talent we can miss the intangibles that matter. I watched this unfold in front of my eyes but Alabama said no to the number one player in the country because he didn’t make enough great grades, not good grades but great grades. The thought, and I quote, “if he won’t work in the classroom then he won’t work on the field and we don’t want him.” Either we can’t get who we want because we can’t afford that player, we are blinded by talent, or we are not giving value where value belongs.

Actually, the loss to florida was 35-0 and the 91 bowl loss was 34-7 or something like that. But yes those were rough times recovering from the Dubose years, and the next year (92) we did get the natty.

Just watching the intensity on the face of Cignetti for 3 hours was amazing. Saban lost that around 2021. He became a HRD manager at that point trying to keep folks happy.

But the actual destruction of our DL and LB's play after play was depressing. They didn't just block our guys, they buried them. Made their ass quit.

I am still trying to process that Michigan game. Hell, they played their 3rd string against us due to all other out for many reasons.

Playing Milroe the entire game made no F sense. Give him the 1st half and then go get minutes for this year's crew.

Where does two 4 loss seasons and a beat down of epic proportion fit into that equation? Making the playoffs is a given at a place like Bama. Winning our share is expected. Having a reasonable chance to win not having the performance from Thursday.

Yesterday was a tough showing, but dude, we made the playoffs, won a game, and got blown out by maybe the best team in the country.

Not acceptable I do not care how good the team you played is. You are at Alabama not Vandy or Mizzou.

What is the first thing I would do if I were CKD? Double down on what I believe it takes to win. We expect a mindset of MTAQ. This is not who CKD is. Whether we like it or not he is going to have to do it his way and it either succeeds or it does not. He has to be guided by the core values about what he thinks it takes to win. If this guy does not believe in himself and his system then he is the wrong guy for Bama.

CKD is not stupid he knows that performance Thursday was absolutely unacceptable and will get him fired if he does not get it fixed.

We made the payoff, I do not care what coach before hand has done. I gave almost a half million dollars to this school for me to get an education, so maybe it’s different

4 losses per year is not accceptable or how they played in those losses regardless of who the coach was in the past. This was not even a CNS reference. Bama expectations of excellence did not start with CNS. Been expecting excellence in how they played for most of my 60+ years on this earth. Did they always achieve that during that time? No, but that was always how coaches were going to be measured and coaches that fall short do not stay around long (exception was the probation years out of necessity). Oh and just making the playoffs is not the measuring stick either especially how they played.

My bigger fear is in this new world of NIL that our pocket books are deep enough. We do not have oil or Nike money.

i appreciate the 6 in row vs AU..the 2-1 vs uga...the W vs tn..the 2 wins vs lsu...the top 4 ranking in both years...the optimism...so much....so damn much..( hate getting blowouted though)
