🏈 You’re The Head Coach, What Changes Do YOU Make?

As a fan, I get it. It has been a long time since we've seen an Alabama team get physically dominated to the extent it looked like they made our ass quit. I'm not sure that the physical style of football is in CKD's coaching DNA. It hasn't been anywhere he's coached, Ive always seen it as a soft we will beat you like we're playing chess kind of scheme. You never hear him say anything about dominating your opponent, play with physicality. Its always, play the next play, the game will come to you and things like that. If he wins with his style at Bama, great, but IMO, that shit show last night made the "give him time" a lot shorter.
I am sure there are LOTS of Tide boosters who are LIVID right now. DeBoer will not be allowed to have many more games like that.

Guys. I hate to tell you this....but this ain't your daddy's Alabama teams of the past and this isn't even the same Alabama teams of the last 20 years. NIL has ruined college sports. Cody Campbell has already stated he will "double down" when it comes to financing Texas Tech's roster. Texas Tech was in the play off and had a bye. Texas Tech. Look at how piss poor the SEC has been compared to the B1G this year in bowl match ups. The last 2 natty's have been won by the B1G. Bama has money, but not like some of these other institutions out there. We can hang....but are we financially well off enough to compete year in and year out from a dollar perspective consistently?

They mentioned it last night that 90% of the UGA roster was home grown recruits and only 10% portal. They went against an Ole Miss team that (according to google) had approximately 30-40 players from the portal. Unless you have a really good eye for talent that you can develop ( Lane Kiffen, Curt Cignetti)......then you have to try and go the Kirby Smart way and grow your talent. I think that is what DeBoer is after. It was year two and he is working on it. He has to replace coaches again this year with Shepard and Sheridan leaving. It is a brave new world gentlemen. And in the words of the most Famous Gump of all (Forrest). Each season's team will be like a box of chocolates....you never know what you're gonna get.

On a side note. I think that Cignetti's offensive coach's have been with him throughout all of his stops. If he wins it all and has another good year like these past 2, his staff will get gutted. Will be interesting to see how he does replacing them. Dabo did well until he lost his OC/DC in the same year and Clemson came back to earth harder than Bama did after Saban retired.

I am not making excuses for the current staff. Bama's Jeckyll and Hyde play under this staff has left me saying a lot of words that are not appropriate for Sunday School. Still, lets give it a couple more years and see how things are after they have had a chance to attempt to run players through the program for 4 years. Remember, there is a team across the state that would loved to have sucked as bad as we did this year and make it to the second round of the play-offs. Roll Tide and Happy New Year!!

Yesterday was a tough showing, but dude, we made the playoffs, won a game, and got blown out by maybe the best team in the country.

Indiana looked really good.
Yes, the Hoosiers are for real. I don't know if anybody can beat them this year. Cignetti and his players and coaches have made a remarkable transition in two years.

There is no shame in losing to a great team, especially the best team in your sport. But that is not the same as being DESTROYED, and continuing to stubbornly keep doing the same things that have held you back all season. Without correction or improvement.

DeBoer looks like a marshmallow, and we need a stonefish.

With it being the first day of the portal, the GM and myself are re-evaluating our roster. The GM should already have me a list of kids that are in the portal that fit our needs, OL, DL, LBs. We’re having meetings with each player and we define and discuss what value do they bring to the team and is this truly where they feel they can contribute. I then meet with each coach one on one and a few are going to get their feelings hurt. They are going to be told to pack up their shit and leave NOW, since development at their position sucked donkey balls!! Looking at you OL, you too STs coach.

Please explain.
Hootie was the AD at Bama when Bill was the HC. Bill had a really good year in 89 winning 10 but losing to AU at Lee County. Instead of giving Bill an extension he did nothing. Bill got the hint and off to Kentucky he went. No firing took place, so Bama saved money and got rid of Bill as well.

No way in hell does Kalen get an updated contract.

If I’m AD I tell CKD to keep doing what he’s been doing and build the team how he sees fit because he’s been here two years and we’ve been successful. No the game yesterday didn’t go well, but we made it to the second round of the playoff. I offer him an extension and hopefully he signs it and we keep pushing foward

Makes absolute zero sense. It's fine if there is not a trend of getting absolutely smashed in each of the first two years, but it has happened three times. That simply shows lack of preparation. No offense, but that sits more with your political leanings than it does with reality. Extending a guy that you say has gotten us better, but what shows that? Where exactly have we gotten better? Making the Playoff? Congratulations, we're a Top 12 team. Not good enough for what we pay him and what he has been given to succeed. I'm not wanting to kick him out the door, but to say extend him and keep doing what he's doing goes against everything any Alabama fan is saying, every Alabama fan.

IMO, I am more than willing to give CKD another year to right the ship. I, along with many others on here and elsewhere have complained about changes in the assistant coaches.

Here are things that jump off the charts to me: CRG kills more drives with dumb play calls, we insist on long developing pass plays, we do not use slants, quick hitters, screens or passes to the short middle against two deep coverage (a week area), our OL is horrific. Where are any adjustments? We do not have a RB in house that will be drafted or sign as a free agent. I am not 100% sold on Ty either. So, I suggest changes on offensive side of the coaching staff.

Next, I would make sure that CKW knows that a soft zone in the SEC does not work. We are better when we apply pressure. Our DB’s have to play tighter coverage! How many times this season have we given up a first down when it’s 3rd and half a mile? Too many!

Finally, our special teams is a lot to be desired. Punting has been an issue all season. We continue to catch the ball on kick offs and get nailed before we reach the 20 yard line when a fair catch here would give us better field position. On the flip side, when we are receiving a punt we fair catch the ball and hardly ever try to return a punt.

We are not a strong or physical team. Strength and conditioning has to be much better. A definite change here needs to take place.

The AD needs to have a serious talk with CKD and insist he make changes and then CKD needs to ask several coaches to leave immediately. If we do not have the players on roster that can play and contribute, we need to be looking hard at the portal.

I can handle getting beat but I cannot handle the lack of preparedness, focus, intensity and lack of competitiveness we have displayed in games the past two years. The decline started in the last year or two under CNS and has continued under CKD. Rant over.

Just a thought for some of you out there. I hope this anecdote makes you feel a little better today...

Prior to their back to back Super Bowls in 1992 and 1993, the Dallas Cowboys went 11-5 in 1991. They went into Soldier Field, beat the Bears, and the very next week they got stomped by the Detroit Lions 38-6.

A Cowboys team that was coached by Jimmy Johnson and had Troy Aikmen, Emmett Smith, and Michael Irvin got punked and snuffed by a Lions team whose only player I can name is Barry Sanders.

Changes must be made, but the sky isn't falling.
