šŸˆ You’re The Head Coach, What Changes Do YOU Make?

Not been that long since sec championship game
Or fsu ...or Michigan last year....or ok last year....etc

See the trend?
I am still trying to process that Michigan game. Hell, they played their 3rd string against us due to all other out for many reasons.

Playing Milroe the entire game made no F sense. Give him the 1st half and then go get minutes for this year's crew.

Hootie was the AD at Bama when Bill was the HC. Bill had a really good year in 89 winning 10 but losing to AU at Lee County. Instead of giving Bill an extension he did nothing. Bill got the hint and off to Kentucky he went. No firing took place, so Bama saved money and got rid of Bill as well.

No way in hell does Kalen get an updated contract.
IMO, I am more than willing to give CKD another year to right the ship. I, along with many others on here and elsewhere have complained about changes in the assistant coaches.

Here are things that jump off the charts to me: CRG kills more drives with dumb play calls, we insist on long developing pass plays, we do not use slants, quick hitters, screens or passes to the short middle against two deep coverage (a week area), our OL is horrific. Where are any adjustments? We do not have a RB in house that will be drafted or sign as a free agent. I am not 100% sold on Ty either. So, I suggest changes on offensive side of the coaching staff.

Next, I would make sure that CKW know that a soft zone in the SEC does not work. We are better when we apply pressure. Our DB’s have to play tighter coverage! How many times this season have we given up a first down when it’s 3rd and half a mile? Too many!

Finally, our special teams is a lot to be desired. Punting has been an issue all season. We continue to catch the ball on kick offs and get nailed before we reach the 20 yard line when a fair catch here would give us better field position. On the flip side, when we are receiving a punt we fair catch the ball and hardly ever try to return a punt.

We are not a strong or physical team. Strength and conditioning has to be much better. A definite change here needs to take place.

The AD needs to have a serious talk with CKD and insist he make changes and then CKD needs to ask several coaches to leave immediately. If we do not have the players on roster that can play and contribute, we need to be looking hard at the portal.

I can handle getting beat but I cannot handle the lack of preparedness, focus, intensity and lack of competitiveness we have displayed in games the past two years. The decline started in the last year or two under CNS and has continued under CKD. Rant over.

I'd call a team meeting. I'd take full blame for the loss, then tell the guys that some changes are going to be made. I'd tell them to just keep working and pushing themselves to be better (even though there won't be any practices for a while) so we can come out on the other side ready to fight HARD for what we want.

Then...

I'd pull out every tape from every game from this season. I start analyzing every...single...snap; on both sides of the ball.
Then I make a list of the top 5 highest-rated offensive and defensive coordinators and skill position coaches. I then start watching tapes of THEIR games (again, both sides of the ball). I then contrast and compare against common opponents or similar teams to see what stands out, what worked, and what didn't work. I start looking at their recruiting and what players worked and what players didn't.

Then I'd call the AD and tell him what I've been doing and what I WANT to do. Then I might start making phone calls and gauging interest.

Under Saban, BAMA used to get pissed off when they got behind (most time). It used to piss them off and they used to play harder and faster and just be relentless. The defense used to be mean and act like the opposing offense said something bad about their Mama. THAT'S what I want to see, again. I want that energy, that drive, that intensity, that toughness, that MEANNESS they used to have. Big, physical linebackers that would put you on your ass play after play and make you regret catching that pass over the middle. Edge rushers that would chase the opposing quarterback until he just couldn't run anymore and slide down rather than take a big hit on a sack. Safeties that were more like wide receivers.

Guys. I hate to tell you this....but this ain't your daddy's Alabama teams of the past and this isn't even the same Alabama teams of the last 20 years. NIL has ruined college sports. Cody Campbell has already stated he will "double down" when it comes to financing Texas Tech's roster. Texas Tech was in the play off and had a bye. Texas Tech. Look at how piss poor the SEC has been compared to the B1G this year in bowl match ups. The last 2 natty's have been won by the B1G. Bama has money, but not like some of these other institutions out there. We can hang....but are we financially well off enough to compete year in and year out from a dollar perspective consistently?

They mentioned it last night that 90% of the UGA roster was home grown recruits and only 10% portal. They went against an Ole Miss team that (according to google) had approximately 30-40 players from the portal. Unless you have a really good eye for talent that you can develop ( Lane Kiffen, Curt Cignetti)......then you have to try and go the Kirby Smart way and grow your talent. I think that is what DeBoer is after. It was year two and he is working on it. He has to replace coaches again this year with Shepard and Sheridan leaving. It is a brave new world gentlemen. And in the words of the most Famous Gump of all (Forrest). Each season's team will be like a box of chocolates....you never know what you're gonna get.

On a side note. I think that Cignetti's offensive coach's have been with him throughout all of his stops. If he wins it all and has another good year like these past 2, his staff will get gutted. Will be interesting to see how he does replacing them. Dabo did well until he lost his OC/DC in the same year and Clemson came back to earth harder than Bama did after Saban retired.

I am not making excuses for the current staff. Bama's Jeckyll and Hyde play under this staff has left me saying a lot of words that are not appropriate for Sunday School. Still, lets give it a couple more years and see how things are after they have had a chance to attempt to run players through the program for 4 years. Remember, there is a team across the state that would loved to have sucked as bad as we did this year and make it to the second round of the play-offs. Roll Tide and Happy New Year!!
Georgia's ability to get local talent is a result of two nattys in recent years and national prominance in the years they didn't win. Winning leads to winning. Alabama had it during Saban's tenure. Kids wanted to play for Alabama because it meant winning and championships.

One thing people aren’t putting into consideration when they’re bitching you is that 38 ā€œSaban guysā€ peaced out when he did

New OC. ( sorry Grubb out.) -We Will have a ground game.
New S&C coach ( what good is it to press 800 or 900 pounds if you can't translate that to a game.
New QB coach
New OL coach. (May look at Pittman}
Look at bringing Pruitt in on the D side of the ball.
Portal search for OL and ILB. and We don't spend on Coleman.
We start Playing backups to develop depth.
practices will NOT be funtime They'll keep doing it until they do it right over and over.. And we will tackle and hit during practice.
NO ice cream trucks. and no missing meetings and no player podcasts channels. There will be discipline on the team.
No players doing interviews during the season.
If players aren't committed, to dominate, then DO NOT COME HERE.
I'm sure there are a few more.

That was sooooooo bad...
And a 40-0 loss the next year..vs Florida

But that was also inheriting a broken system

This was more embarrassing loss...
And sabans loss to Utah....in Sugar.

But these boys made our boys ass....quit
Actually, the loss to florida was 35-0 and the 91 bowl loss was 34-7 or something like that. But yes those were rough times recovering from the Dubose years, and the next year (92) we did get the natty.

First of all, once Bryne gets through answering all the calls he's getting from $$$ boosters, he has to sit down with CKD and say Kalen, no extension for anyone, fix it or I will.

If I'm CKD, I'm working the portal for all I can to improve the OL, and RB positions.

I'm calling Miami's DC, eventhough he's only been on the job for a year, and ask him how much will it take? I'm telling Grubb, 'see if you can find work somewhere else.

With a little improvement on offense and a ferocious defense like Miami showed in the CFP, we can compete with the Indianas of the world.

Sound strange to say that.

JMO but the list of things to fix is overwhelming until you really have to determine smartly where to begin.

Iss Kalen able to get over the Sioux Falls BBQ Boys friendship with Grubb and Morrell? Both need to go.
OL coach needs to go.
ST needs to go.

Do you stop here for 2026?

Do you give Wommack, Roach, DB coaches and other LBer coaches one more year before you give up on this gimmick defense.

900K a month until paid in full if they just fire Kalen and start over.

24 months since the Kalen hiring PC

Fool's Gold? Maybe one more year to get the truth but Byrne best be working on his shortlist this morning.

JMO but once the Houston Texan's season is complete, I would have a Bama person visit with DeMeco and learn if he wants to be considered as the next HC at Bama. He makes less than 5 million per year currently.

Put into perspective. We just got skull drug by INDIANA. So, a team that literally hasn't won shit ever, in college football, has became a perennial powerhouse in 2 years and we're one of the most prominent programs in the history of the sport that cant beat a team that went 5-7. We can sit here and spin shit any way we want it. Different time, different era, I get it, so your telling me that Indiana has figured out how to kick ass in a different era of football than us? Great, we get to watch shit shows until someone figures it out. Sure glad I lived through the CPBB and CNS eras.

Just watching the intensity on the face of Cignetti for 3 hours was amazing. Saban lost that around 2021. He became a HRD manager at that point trying to keep folks happy.

But the actual destruction of our DL and LB's play after play was depressing. They didn't just block our guys, they buried them. Made their ass quit.

#1 Zero chance of an extension at this point. Year 3 will be a make it or break it year,
#2 Fire Grubb. His concepts and scheme are terrible and consistently hurt the entire team. I 100% understand why he was let go at Seattle. His offensive scheme will NEVER work against top tier competition from what I've seen.
#Can the O-line, ST, and S&C Coach.
#4 Ensure Ty goes to the draft and restart at the QB position with the talent behind him

I get we went 11-4 and made it to the second year of the playoffs. The way in which Bama has lost games the last 2 years is unacceptable for a top tier program. DeBoer was handed one of the best programs in the entire country, but you can't tell at times. IF you watch UGA, Ole Miss, Indiana, Oregon, OSU, and Miami we look NOTHING like those teams currently. They all play complimentary football. We do not.

If I’m the HC, I put my nose down and keep grinding, and building my program the way I know how to.

Yesterday was a tough showing, but dude, we made the playoffs, won a game, and got blown out by maybe the best team in the country.

Indiana looked really good.

It’s always tough for me to put this into words, but when Saban retired, I immediately had the thought that whoever the next coach was going to be, they would pretty much have to build this program back from the ground up. And that’s pretty much what has happened…most of the older roster has transferred or graduated - and this is only year two.

CKD isn’t Saban, but he still a damn good option.
Is he really though? Jury is still out. 8 losses in 2 years with 1 of the best programs in the country. Some good wins and some absolutely horrible losses.
