I want my getaways on the ground. I'm going to avoid the temptation to build my grandkids anything in my yard. They get older quick, lose interest and it will end up a rotten eyesore.
Now, if I ever get a large piece of land, I'd consider building this shelter. It's the plan for about half of the shelters on the Ouachita Trail that runs a little over 200 miles from just west of Little Rock into eastern Oklahoma. Superior to almost all others I've seen on the Pinhoti and the Appalachian Trail.
Either that, or I'd build a replica of Pocosin Cabin. I love the inside/outside chimney, porch and efficient interior. I stayed at that cabin when I hiked through some years ago. It still looks the same:
