I want my getaways on the ground. I'm going to avoid the temptation to build my grandkids anything in my yard. They get older quick, lose interest and it will end up a rotten eyesore.

Now, if I ever get a large piece of land, I'd consider building this shelter. It's the plan for about half of the shelters on the Ouachita Trail that runs a little over 200 miles from just west of Little Rock into eastern Oklahoma. Superior to almost all others I've seen on the Pinhoti and the Appalachian Trail.


Either that, or I'd build a replica of Pocosin Cabin. I love the inside/outside chimney, porch and efficient interior. I stayed at that cabin when I hiked through some years ago. It still looks the same:

I LIKE! That's cool. I kid you not. That is Dustin's back yard. The shelter is 10x that because of driving rain in the spring...but everything else is identical. Down to the fire pit. His is made with slate. His grill is that dirty....but makes a nice burger. 20 something bales of pine straw he laid out this year ... seriously. Just. Like. That.

No shit. I have lumber in the back yard to build that little set up with two chairs and the table...people took their fence down and put it on the street. I"m cutting it down and building stupid things
