How are you all doing? April and I didn't see much of the storm that hit here, but it did cause some damages and a tree fell on a house nearby. Our power stays off about 25 minters.

Much ado about nothing. Last night and well into the morning "they" were calling for some severe weather this morning. I was outside around 8'ish and noticed the birds just "doin' their thing, chirpin' the day away." At that point it was 'meh,' we aren't getting anything of note.

Didn't.

I'm guessing it's about 60° ...windows open, no wind, quiet as church when the offering plate is being passed around. It's pretty tempting to go out on the deck and finish up work.

Some peak wind gusts across Alabama last night/early this morning (in areas served by the Birmingham NWS)
(Disclaimer: A few years ago this guys' tractor broke down. When I went by his property he was tilling up his garden towing the rotary tiller behind either a Caravan or a Pacifica mini-van. He has both, they look exactly alike.)

A guy around the corner has an anemometer on top of his house. I rarely talk with the guy: he's just...weird. One thing he mentioned to me a long time ago about the NWS and their wind reports: you never know how accurate. You can get one from Amazon for about $14 or one from Walmart for around $80. That tells me there is a BIG difference in quality.

If you look up the NWS site you'll find the same type of "warning." It reads something like different machines, different tools, different areas of the county (so some may be blocked from wind gusts,) etc.

The reports read from 40 to 60 something. I don't know what they were other than to say a few caught me when I was out.

Seven days ago the Bradford Pears started to bloom. I love those trees (except for the sneezing part that comes with this blooming season.) We had winds in excess of 20 for three days. I was riding at a pace of around 14mph a few days ago and a gust took me down to 3 in less than a second. All those blooms? Gone.

The dogwoods started blooming last week which means the azaleas will be in full force in the next two weeks.

Here is where you buy stock in tissue companies. I'll make you some money all by myself.

It's a little crazy when you have a moment of self realization as you are walking around the yard looking at rose bushes..."which one will bloom first?" And you're excited about it...

I should have stopped smoking glue a long time ago.

We didn't have power for 2 weeks. 10 mile drive home that night took over an hour.
I've been through some crazy storms and it has been the little ones that cut the power the longest. (Knocking on wood.) I've never been without for more than 48 or so, if that. the ice storm that hit North Alabama might be the longest even with the tornado's that came through.

I lived 10 miles from town, almost no electrical poles were still standing after the snow. It probably would've been out a bit longer but the people from the community brought tractors, backhoes and chain saws and cleared the road to Thomasville. We only had well water so no water for 2 weeks either, had to go to relatives houses to shower and wash clothes. Dad bought a generator after that.

I remember walking from Rose Towers to Reese Phifer in that mess.

I remember it very well. I was living on the coast at the time, but was in B'ham that week for a fairly extensive knee operation at UAB thanks to an early season baseball injury. I was having to stay with my grandmother at her apartment in Hoover for a week to recover some before I got go back home. Snow started falling a few days after the surgery and it felt like it wasn't gonna stop. I don't recall going without power for too long, so at least there was that.
