🏈 When do y'all think OU and TX begin to play in the SEC?

A few things to ponder when waiting to find out when Texas and OU start in the SEC. The current SEC TV deal with CBS runs out after the 2023 football season. (That deal is a terrible deal for the SEC, excellent for CBS at around $55 million for best games and SEC title game) 1/5

If OU and Texas came to the SEC prior to 2023, assuming they escape grant of rights, CBS would presumably have access to Red River and their home games. CBS has shown in past SEC realignment that they aren’t going to pay more money for these games. 2/5

So there’s no likely financial bump for the rest of the SEC from CBS in short term. There could be some legal wrangling over whether CBS owns these games, but that seems unlikely to work. 3/5

The other dynamic here is that Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby is daring OU/Texas/ESPN to give them a reason get litigious. ESPN doesn’t have full control of SEC TV rights until 2024 season, which would be the final one OU and Texas are in Big 12. 4/5

That’s a long way to say that market and legal forces could lead to some patience here. Also, exit fees are giant at more than $150 million combined. The juice may not be worth the squeeze when you judge cost and legal risk with seemingly limited potential return. 5/5

Next yeR would be a push. But big 12 aint goning anywhere without their bell cows
Others will be positioning ti get a home this year and next.
There wont be a big 12 after this and next season.

cant have a party without people

so I would think the big 12 dissolving in 2022 will open the doors for full schedules in 2023 in SEC

plus gives sec schools a chance to deal with crap g5 teams presently on schedule to facilitate a 10 game conference schedule

gonna be some awesome games for future

When the dust settles and these other schools in the Big 12 start seeing a path forward for their schools post Big 12 the willingness to shoot it in the head will come. This will motivate buy-outs and agreements to not pursue litigation. Emotions are raw right now but that will cool off. I would say 2023 ish. Can't see it benefitting anyone to go all the way until 2025.

You will still complain about the power 5 teams and continue to see G5 teams.
You think!

a g5 team is ok here n there
But near 50% (3 of 7) of home schedule
Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!

i applaud the effort to increase quality of schedule in future
It was done because many feel same
Including our HC

just stating a fact ( u call complaining i guess) that most fans feel same. Especially us long term... real long term....fans see games scheduled for money rather than competition

And in some case quality games canceled and rescheduled with crap Regardless of reason

but right. I hate paying big bucks to see such crap on our schedule but love supporting Bama anyway. Which i have for a longgggg time

CBS may like that Alabama-Texas game enough next year. Wouldn't that be an ABC game since it's in Austin?

Depends on conference affiliation in '22.

Considering CBS didn't up their payout when A&M and Mizzou joined the SEC I don't see them making the choice to pay more with the addition of OU and TX. So, what's the benefit for the SEC to bring them in early if they don't get the extra monies (like they would under the new ESPN contract?)

I hear you. They are in the catbird seat, CBS. They don't have to do anything honestly. It will be interesting to see if they do try and create that last bit of hoorah exposure before their contract expires with the SEC.
