The actor is homosexual. He's also freaking hilarious. He has played two very popular roles in TV history with Doogie Houser and Barney Stinson. He's also done some film work, but not near as successfully.

Funny in the Harold and Kumar movies, but he reminds me of Pundit.
He's had a few duds on the movie side, but his character in HIMYM is legen-wait for it-dary.
