who is the rappers? Again, you're referencing rappers from 90s.... Wow.

What's "wow" about that?

Young Thug. Pretty current and one of the biggest out right now. Young Thug - Wikipedia

Trick Daddy - I'm a Thug (I love Trick Daddy by the way) I'll let him describe himself in the lyrics and you can deflect on how far from the actions you're calling racist are to the description.

Funk, hit me up with some of that thug
Yup, just like that, hit 'em in the chest with it
One time, one time again in the head
For Buddy Roe y'all, check it out
I don't know what this world's gonna do
But I know one thing that this is the life for me
Baby cause I'm a thug
All day every day
Baby cause I'm a thug
Wouldn't change for the world
Uh huh cause I'm a thug
That's right you heard
Baby cause I'm a thug
Uh huh oh yeah
Could it be my baggy jeans
Or my gold teeth
That make me different from ya'll
Ain't trippin' dog
But listen dog
I've been raised a little different dog
I'm just doing my thang
These are my ghetto slangs
And I'm representing thug shit
This who I roll with
Watch them niggas that's gonna love this
Niggas who out on bond
On the run
Got 10 years on parole
Since you can't say it dog I'ma say it for ya'll
Motherfuck the po-po's
Fuck the judge and ceo's
Fuck the da and po's
Fuck the family of the victim
Witness that's snitchin ass hoes nigga
I don't know what this world's gonna do
But I know one thing that this is the life for me
Baby cause I'm a thug
All day every day
Baby cause I'm a thug

Been known to break up happy homes
No disrespect dog but you aint have no business answering her phone

And you couldn't have been hitting her right
Cause every second night she been hitting the phones
She want a thug

But I know one thing that this is the life for me
Baby cause I'm a thug
All day every day
Baby cause I'm a thug
Wouldn't change for the world

The song came out in 2001. We're in 2023.

So??? Why does it matter when it came out? Has he been writing hymnals or something to make you think his life and mindset have changed? I could go on and on about it if you want me to and quote thousands of other lyrics saying the same things up until this moment. You simply want to argue the point right now and not what set up the right to use the word when describing an individual that breaks rules and doesn't care about the health of society. You can't cherry pick in this discussion when you're trying to call someone racist and then refute every piece of evidence thrown your way that the word has been used as adjectives to describe someone's lifestyle that directly correlates to the actions people on this board are describing.

I see you didn't respond to the Young Thug part. Was that last week or something and doesn't count?

You really want to get into it about the whole thing I'd love to know why you're ok with black musicians calling women bitches, hoes, sluts, and every other demeaning word in the world, but as soon as a black person feels their color is being mentioned they can get all upset. Skin color is off limits, but gender is all on the table. Sounds like another cherry picking argument and someone that wants to say "do as I say, not as I do".

Brother, I'm not trying to argue with anyone on here. It seems that everyone who referenced songs, artists or anything was been linked to early 90s, 2000s... You don't really hear people using the word "thugs" unless it was certain people saying it.

There is a real good article on this:

MCWHORTER: No because I think that if an African-American woman uses the word thug today, we're not always conscious of all of these overtones in the words that we use. But I think that when she said that, she didn't mean it the same way as her white equivalent would. The word means two things, just like the N-word. And I think all of us are sophisticated enough to wrap our heads around that.

Hey, and maybe you're right. But you could also be wrong. Words get misconstrued in just about every conversation, and race is one where motives are sought out more than attempting to understand exactly what the message was meant to be. In my eyes, there is no difference in the word in the 90's, 2000's, 2010's, or 2020's. You telling me the n-word means something different from the 90's than it does in 2023? Nah, it's not an argument you will win with me. Wanting to find a way to say another word is a meaning for another word when that same word is used over and over again by the subjects of the description really doesn't hold up to me. I also do not agree some people are allowed to say some words and others are not. That's not what this country was built on, and that right should never ever be threatened over television, social media, in person, or anywhere. I can say the same about hair styles and clothing.

All that being said, I'm glad we can talk about it, it's healthy to talk.

My question to anyone that believes this is this. What is the difference between the n-word ending in -er and -a? You're telling me out of any word you could use and come up with that you could only come up with a word beginning with the same exact letters and pronunciation as a word so despised that ending in -a was the best you could do and it mean something totally different? Make zero sense. It's culture and the twisting of the word by the culture to sound cool. It's also a crutch so many have used to prop up to turn their hatred towards others as in "we can use it and you can't". That's called entitlement. You hate the word so much and so many people start claiming emotional distress you used 95% of it to make another word no one else could use...

Can we retire the word, "Thug" ?
Didn’t really mean it racist wise.. but he was shielded from the police because of his athletic ability…. Jameis Winston was another horrible human being…. Because he could not keep his hands off the girls in school…. And the complaints never went anywhere…. One father was even going to kill him….🤫
