I do believe the productivity of the D was at best leveling off at worse trending down. I know it was different times but Smart and Pruitts defenses based on the eye test seemed to be more elite. Pro style offenses are far easier to defend than the offenses nowadays, different time as you said. Smart and Pruitt both struggled mightily with running QBs, if you take away the “tan through us like shit through a tin horn” game.

And your suggestion for changes would be what? I personally feel better front 7 play is what is needed and the difference in a good defense that we had compared to a great defense. With that would come more pressure. Also if you can't get pressure with the DL then bring blitz (I know it is risk reward) but fundamentally the mentality has to be the DC will be as agressive as he has to be to effect the QB. Never allow him to get comfortable.

May be naive but putting a defense on the field that never gives up 30+ points and mostly in the teens or less in points is my hope. I think it is doable with the talent Bama can recruit. Basically I want the D feared again. Some would say it was and maybe so. I think a player or two on the team was feared but the Defense was not. The OC should lose sleep trying to game plan.

This is with less talent. They have only out recruited us once since Kirby got there. Also…they don’t choke when the game is on the line. They play faster and with more aggression. If we want to talk strength of schedule…Georgia would have crushed our schedule. Before the last several years, I felt pretty good about our chances with the game on the line and the defense on the field at the end of a game. Now, I just close my eyes and hope for the best…it’s a coin toss as to whether they choke or not…

IMO.. The only good thing that happened to Georgia this year was they got lucky enough to be pitted in the NC game against an over ranked, less talented and overwhelmed TCU team.

I do not disagree with you about our defense and how they have played especially in crucial situations. I will say, as someone else said above, with our two 1000 yard receivers on the field, we wore that great D out last year. I believe we would have done the same in the NC game as well with just one of them on the field. We lost both and were still ahead in the 4th qtr. I know I am not stating anything we all do not already know but just pointing out some things that should cause us to tap the breaks on UGA the standard of all standards. We need to get back to the Bama standard.

On the recruiting, I would be interested how the rankings look at the position groups. How has our recruting looked at the DL and LB positions? That seems to me where some issues are.
