🏈 Trash Fire at Texas A&M

Ask the guy who passed you over (the boss). Have a heart-to-heart with him/her to understand if it is something you're doing, or not doing, that keeps you from the DM role. Don't beat around the bush. Tell him/her that you feel you're more than qualified, and why, but others are always getting the opportunity. Once you've had that meeting, you can plan your next step.
Good advise and I appreciate it. I already did that and the only reason is that they had multi unit experience and I don't. It's the old "can't get it if you don't have experience but can't get experience if you don't get it".

Did you ask how you can get experience? Career development needs to be planned by both the employee and the supervisor. If they aren't willing to help you develop, you need to consider your options. If other people in your role don't have the experience either, and a position opens up, does that mean they will go outside to fill it? The best way is to promote from within, but at some point, only those passed over will be left.

A&M is coming after Bama's QB commit. Could get interesting.

Think Sumlin is pissing in the wind there. Dead period is upon us and Hurts is enrolling early. The damn kid is an honor student and can simply look and see that there are some serious issues.

I know that if I was a QB recruit and highly sought after, I would take one look at the train wreck that is A&M, and I would run in the opposite direction! I wouldn't take any calls and would throw any and all mail from them in the trash. 3 QBs have left that program in "a year!" Why? Seems that there were some promises made to entice recruits to sign and then when the promise isn't filled right away, the kid grumbles and the starter gets benched. Hill to Allen to Murray. The kid in the '17 class, Tate Martell, seriously needs to reconsider his commitment to Sumlin and A&M.

I would like to ask, to no one in particular, why I have been passed over for a District Manager position? Because the three that I have had fits this statement perfectly. Needless to say that it is my old pappy's teaching that keeps me caring as much as I do or I wouldn't do **** for this company, except cash the paycheck.
To add to what Old Player said, sometimes the boss, or selecting person, may be in over their heads as well, and not realize that he/she is selecting duds. It even happens that having non selected you a couple of times he/she becomes convinced that there must be a reason you have not been picked. and as Old Player suggested, have a heart to heart with the boss and find out why, if there are things you should be doing differently, if there is any special assignment that you could take on to show what you can do.

I am trying to come to terms with something in my own mind. A former co-worker whom I thought well of in the agency I retired from was passed over for a promotion recently in favor of a real dunderhead. Insult was added to injury when he was then asked to help train the selectee. He lost it and tried to kill himself via a small caliber firearm. Word is that he survived, but it is unlikely that he will make a full recovery.

Bamaledge, don't let this get you down, and if you need to change companies, do it sooner rather than later.

That's an expected response. I know nothing about your line of work, but anything you can do for self-development, or to show an interest in your self-development, will help the perception that your work experience is in a silo rather than broad, and that you have a willingness to take on positions of greater authority. If possible, ask to sit in for someone in another functional area while they are on leave or on another assignment. Absent that, show the initiative to take a self-development course to demonstrate your commitment - it could either be related to a functional area of your company where you lack experience, or it could be something that exposes you to management training. Good luck to you.

RTR,

Tim

I'm not sure of your exact situation, but Harvey Coleman wrote a decent book that I've found a lot of value in for my line of work to help top performers better place themselves in a position for promotion based on performance, image, and exposure (pie).

Check it out.
Empowering Yourself: The Organizational Game Revealed

It is a pretty popular concept in managerial/leadership oriented developmental courses. There are plenty of synopsis and other advances on the core ideas behind PIE available online if you'd rather Google it to get an idea.

Bottom line is that performance is expected and is the lowest factor. The intangibles, selfaccoutabilty, and other elements within the I and the E are what truly sway the subjective nature of assessments toward or against your favor for promotions to positions of greater responsibility

Report: Texas A&M chancellor working to terminate Kevin Sumlin's contract

Hmmmm. It will be interesting to hear the justification and when he pulls the trigger. Sumlin can be fired at any time, but it sounds like they want to fire with cause (no buyout). Maybe I'm reading into it too much. Will cause Hell with recruiting.

If I may, allow me to suggestion using a lot of caution here.

From the article:

After the transfer of quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray, and the suspension of a top receiver, Texas A&M chancellor John Sharp is unhappy with the direction of the program and is working to terminate coach Kevin Sumlin’s contract, according to Horns Digest’s Chip Brown who was a guest on SportsTalk with Bo Mattingly on Friday.
Let's remember here. This is the same Chip Brown who appeared on a local (Austin, TX) sports call-in show (radio station that is an affiliate of ESPN, not an ESPN station) and started Saban to TX rumors. Then, this same Brown, turned around and tweeted "ESPN is reporting Saban ..."

10 million per year ... Ms. Terry in Austin looking at houses in Austin with their daugher-in-law ... and how many other "new coach at TX will be ____ " before settling for Strong.

Perhaps, just perhaps, he has better sources for news out of A&M than he does at of Texas?!?! :eyeroll: Personally, I'll put more stock into what Pat Forde has said about the state of the Alabama program the last two years than I'll put in Brown's opinions and sources about A&M. And, we ALL know how correct Forde has been.

(OH, let's not forget "A&M will never leave the Big 12 for the SEC..." true jewel there as well.)
