First, if it was in place and he knew about it and then broke the rule anyway, then WHAT the rule was is irrelevant. A punishment is warrented, not for WHAT he did but BECAUSE he did. Does it make any sense that the field is 53 yards wide vice a logical 50? No. It is there, and all of college football plays the same game on the same field. Rules are the same.
Second, WHAT the punishment is can not be judged, unless there are details that I have not read linked to this site. So we know what he did, that we may compare that to it punishment, and then against both "crime" and punishment in other cases?
