🏈 This years Offense....Same or different?

Do yall think we will see the same basic style of offense this year as we did last year...that being mostly run oriented. Our talent level at wide receiver is as good or better than that in the backfield IMO...Maybe our passing game will open up some...

To me that will depend on how well the OL develops, and/or whether one of the other receivers steps up to take some of the pressure off Julio. Perhaps we'll throw a little more, but we have a lot of talented running backs who deserve their carries.

the o-line will be the biggest factor in that question, but i think overall the offense will tilt a little in the passing direction compared to last year just because of the ability of GMac...

We had a pretty balanced offense in Saban's first season. I think that's the most balanced we'll ever see from our offense.

Last year, we ran the ball 63% of the time. That fits with what he's done in the past if you look at the LSU offenses. The most pass oriented offense he field then still ran the ball 60% of the time.

So, this upcoming year?

Not much change, if any.

I know we don't have much to go on, but in theory, is McElroy a more accurate downfield passer than JPW? It certainly would be nice to have a vertical threat on second and short.

Whether that is the case or not, if we get a few of these guys with speed in the lineup we'll have our vertical threat.

I don't disagree a successful down-field pass hurts a defense. But, far too much is put on missed passes on long routes as not being a vertical threat.

You beat a DB one time, and he's going to have that in his mind. So will the defensive coaching staff.

It doesn't take a completed pass to stretch a defense.

I'd take the same as last year if we match the outcomes. :D Nothing like having the defense know what your going to do and they can't stop it. I thought we worked the clock beautifully last year mostly. Of course like Reger said just having the real threat downfield is nice. Operative word...real.

Very good statement Terry. I don't know how many times last year I seen Julio get past the DB even if the pass wasn't on target. The very next play the defense would back up and we wound up with big gain on the ground.

Something that hasn't been touched on that i think has a lot to do with the offensive gameplan, is the defense. Our defense should be down right nasty this season, and i think ultimitly that will dictate how we aproach the offensive gameplan from week to week.

Saban has always liked balance, but if your defense is smoothering the other teams offense all night, why take the chances, when all you have to do is stay balanced and manage the game.

But i do agree with Terry, a deep pass doesn't have to be completed to open up a defense. I loved seeing defenders have to back off Julio, only to see him take a 5 yard curl 15 or 20 yards while dragging 2 or 3 players :D

I don't see any change coming. If the O line comes around then we could open it up more but that isn't Sabans' style. He likes ball control and shove it down the opponents' throat.

I think that for the first two or three games, we will be running the ball even more than what we saw last year. Then, after the OL and McElroy get a little more experience, CJM will open up the offense a little more. We will need to be balanced on offense, and make the opponent respect our passing game. But, when all is said and done, I expect the running game will be our bread and butter, much like last year. But, on the other hand, after we get past Va. Tech, we have a couple of weaker teams, so we may use those two games to experiment on our passing game to see what happens.

My hope is to see the wide open receiver get the ball...we all know the one...the one that gets like a good 3 yards of seperation...hauling azz down the field.. that the QB failed to see. My hope is that Mceleroys vision (observation of the downfield) is better than JPW's. Alot of those passes were missed and it would be nice to connect a few more of those. But as some of yall stated...the OL will dictate alot..if not everything.
