| FTBL The Maze Pose/ showboating

None of these examples of other players from other teams showing out makes it right. You didn't see that from Julio when he scored his first TD. Hand the ball to the ref and go back to the bench like a man. I like Maze and I think he's going to be great. I just want him to remember that he's not wearing a Miami Hurricanes jersey.

omg, r u serious? i figured id come on here and see ppl complaining about the penalty yet i hear ppl actually lookin down on the guy for what? he crossed his damn arm and stood there! r u serious? did any of u guys play football? i know for some of u that was a long time ago (lol) but come the hell on. let the guys have at least some damn fun! some of yall are acting like he ran up to the other team and flicked them off while punting the ball into the stands! how many times have we seen this year that other players on other teams have ACTUALLY "taunted" yet dont get flagged. this was a freshmen WR making his first TD catch. give the kid a break.

and oh yea i loved that DJ "Hollywood" Hall comment the first guy made. yea, cause DJ's jumping up and high fiving a guy thing after TDs was just so disrespectful and classless right? sense the sarcasm. 7-0 and ppl are complaining about this? wow.

Coach Saban hates showboating more than anyone, I would bet. He drug Maze over the coals for that one. I bet Maze doesn't do that again.
There's a part of me that thinks CNS may have acted a little too harshly on that one, but it's his show and if you don't want to play by his rules, pack up.

Did he get a penalty? Yes. Had he have not done that would Alabama had gotten a penalty? No. CNS does not put up with this kinda of behavior. I don't think he acted to harshly. Im am glad he isnt like Shula.

My $.02

An irate Coach Bryant to a player who had just received his second fifteen yard penalty of the game:

"You could play four years and not be good enough to cost the University of Alabama thirty yards!"

Bottom Line:

His action hurt the entire team and because of it, we had to kick the ball from our own 15. The rule might be a bad one - but it's still a rule and he knew about the rule. He made a conscious decision to break the rule and hurt his team in the process. His action was unacceptable. Football is a team sport.

I doubt it happens again.

The travisity is that Defenses are allowed toget away with the same thing that Offenses are not.

How many times have you seen a sack or tackle for a loss when teh DL Poses more than Mr. Olympia or High Steps to mid field like that drum major of some marching band. Double Standard where no standard is needed.

One severs a dude's head with a facemask tackle...15 yards. Chopblock a DL All-American nearly ending his career...15 yards. Stop, Pose, to savor the fruits of months of hard work...15 yards. ;scr

Look, DJ was a great player and all but it didn't take a rocket scientist to tell the guy loved being in the spot light. It was obvious that if the ball wasn't being thrown to him, he wouldn't go 100% that play while others on the team would. When he would score he would almost taunt at times and I for one think that is classless. It got worse as the years went on. I also feel he is one of the riff raff crew from Sabans first year slowing down other players buying into his process. The Crimson Tide is better than that. Act like you've been there before and not some showboating highlight star. Save that crap for the NFL.

I agree I dont want Bama players show boating and getting all arrogant. But lets not take emotion out of the game. These kids are young men playing a game. Maze just scored his first collegiate TD if he wants to bask in the glory fine! I didnt see anything worse from him than you see from Knowshon or other players scoring this weekend.

Do you not like the Lambeau Leap? Is that too much?

In my mind, it seems officials assess the penalty on how the player reacts after they are given a warning. Moreno was quick to jump in the camera, but when the official caught up with him, he straightened up (I'd still have thrown the flag on that one). With Maze, after the official broke up the group celebrating in the corner of the end zone, he stopped and posed.

I think, from the official's point of view, showboating after you've been told to stop is the key.

I'm not much for showboating at all, but the poster who said the defense gets away with more of it is absolutely right. It should be consistent.

RTR,

Tim

My gut feeling is that Maze must have some of this selfish attitude and Saban took this opportunity for some character building for him and the team. It seemed to me that Saban had almost been waiting for that one to drill home the message, team first. Bryant used the press conference all the time to send messages to the team and a player. Just my opinion and I admit I don't know what I am talking about. Go Coach, Long Live the Process.

Hmmmm, never saw it at the stadium.

It was right in front of you Johnson jumps up after his interception and gets a "delay of game" penalty.

RTR

Well, I was a little excited jumping around/highing fiving, etc... At the stadium they rarely show replays of that type thing. They replayed the int but never focused on the end of that play. We were all dumbfounded as to what happened and what the heck "delay of game" on an int. is. ;scr

I sent a memo today outlining a plan of action for several things going on at work, and when I hit send I jumped up, crossed my arms, and glared with defiance. I know it's what I get paid to do, but, you know, I'm just so darned good. Everyone should notice, and they should notice now! Don't wait and award me later. I really need this attention. Most of my co-workers had a part in making this memo and its contents happen, but guess what, it had my name on it and I will get the accolades for this success. I deserve it more than they do!

You're late with your TPS report. Flag.

Both penalties where crap calls. Agreed, not as bad as the last ref crew.

If you act on this side the line then the ref does not have to or cant make a discission. If you get close to the line or just over it you put in the hands of the ref to call or not to call.

If you don't give the ref a chance to make the call then no harm. I think this is the selfish part. I going to push the envelope so to speak. Don't even get close to showboating and you are doing what is best for the team.
