🏈 Team update 2.0

There it is.

His M.O. is to send you a DM and try to goad you into a fight behind the scenes so he can ban you without anyone knowing what or why it happened. Seen it happen to many folks I knew, and he tried his damndest to get me to fall for it. **** that guy.

I got banned for griping about Eddie Jackson (and Nick's fear of pulling him) in an OSU game thread.

Coker has problems with accuracy that don't appear to be changing. that's not the kind of consistency you want. He is, on the other hand big, durable and somewhat athletic. He could give the offense some different dimensions with his size and decent running speed. I like his form and throwing motion but his pocket presence is just weird. He never looks quite comfortable.

Morris seems relatively average in all aspects of play... which could be a good thing with the idea that he won't lose the game for you. flipside is, he is unlikely to go out and take a game back from a team that is beating us.

Bateman is and has been termed the most athletic of the bunch which could be a big asset early on in the season with a newly gelling o-line. He looks quite comfortable in the pocket and his size is good. He has IMO the best throwing mechanics of the bunch or maybe tied with Barnett on that.

As a former college quarterback, let me be the first to tell you that Jake Coker's "form and throwing motion" is terrible. He doesn't get the ball out quickly at all. Combine that with his tendency to make slow decisions in reading the LBs and Safeties, and you've got a problem.

Mel Tucker has now put Eddie Jackson in a better spot. Eddie Jackson is a part of this defense with a chip on their shoulder and by reports shared would be just as pissed as the rest of the defense. I really got excited hearing that. When Ragland spoke of putting fear back into the people we play at SEC Media Days I felt this defense would have the right mojo. I am a fan of smack talk as long as it doesn't come with a flag. I remember Dre Kirkpatrick having that edge to him and not being afraid to let the opposing receiver hear from him after a play. With what Boz has reported this defense is gonna bring that energy back. Should make Saturdays even more entertaining. The fact they didn't just shrug off last year and moved on is very encouraging. Taking it to heart like that and fueling it as motivation is a beautiful. Almost every game will be focused on accomplishing the task at hand to advance each week with the goal of getting back and hopefully getting revenge. Jarren Reed and Tony Brown are guys I'm gonna look for after the whistle is blown. I would think not to many people are getting in Reed's face if he has something to say.

On the offense side, I am not overly concerned with the QB's. With Bateman coming along it makes it easier for the staff to potentially RS Barnett if that is the direction they are wanting to go. If BB is Kiffin's boy, the longer he stays I think the longer Kiffin hangs around, which I want to happen. I disagree in the thinking Kiffin will call plays to make himself look good as a coach. He might try the unorthodox sometimes but I think thats why Saban likes him on sideline to be able to reel him AND so he can work with guys face to face. Coker coming back as quick as he did from his procedure might have had a positive impact on the team. In a sense, that is taking the bull by the horns and not sitting out watching other QB's get the reps. If he can just settle down I think he wins this job. The O-line will be able to hold a pocket for him and ease those jitters he has shown. Morris seems very capable but is just as content with being back-up. Someone mentioned his true desire might to be to coach one day and this is a path to do so, I kinda get that and agree with that. Its just extra that we have a QB of BB potential waiting in the wings.

Throwing motion I think you can get away with in college. Rivers, Leftwich, Tebow. I don't think Dak Prescott has the best and he is regarded as one of the best in the SEC at his position. Now reading defenses is a different story. With the first team defense aware of the passing game last scrimmage it might have been harder than usual. We will get a look at Coker's ability to read and hit the check downs a little better. Also remember the defense he is practicing against will likely be the best D he sees all year.

Remember alot of teams will mask their formations, especially if they know our QB is weak at reading Def. Coker has great arm strength and is physically ready but the thinking part is running alittle late. I hope I don't walk into a dumpster fire tomorrow.

Yea ive seen a few people post that rumor. Im pretty sure its bs as well. I think i even remember Andrew Bone dispelling it.

It was the emergence of Jackson along with the expectation that Tony Conner was in the bag that cost us Bell. Most of the recruiting guys have danced around that, but that's pretty much what it boiled down to. As @Tidestalker mentioned, we slow-played Bell and Urban swooped him away from us.

I guess I'm glad to hear that the defense is playing with a ship on their shoulder, and I certainly think this defense has what it takes to be really special.... but.... I want to see it, not just hear it. The same things were said last year about them being pissed off and ready to avenge the 2013 season after the Auburn and Sugar Bowl losses. I think I remember the secondary was ready to prove everyone wrong when accused of being the weak link on the team, we had guys that were going to get off the edge and pressure the QB, etc etc etc.

I know it should be improved from last year, and I'm excited to watch, but just PGA that we do hear this most every year at this time.

I think the difference from past years is it's not just the fans and media proclaiming it, the players are actually voicing it themselves.

No wonder our DL is in so much better shape entering this season. Can't be easy playing with a ship on your shoulder!! :moon:

Ouch! Thought you said our defense was going to be in "rape mode", if our offense is too...hate to be a badger.
If their jnterior DL is one hurt one undersize, we are gonna run them off the field. When Henry clears the line with his head of steam he makes it to the safety usually. It's gonna get ugly if their D doesn't figure something out up front.
