🏈 Team update 2.0

He transferred out of OSU. Not sure to where.
Former Alabama and Oregon State QB Luke Del Rio will join Florida this summer.
We have no idea what year Del Rio is because he keeps changing schools. If we had to guess, Luke is entering his redshirt sophomore season and spent last year with Oregon State. He will be the third quarterback on Florida's roster behind two scholarship passers. Del Rio likely needs to sit out the season to satisfy NCAA regulations. May 13 - 11:49 AM

  • If the kid was an average walk-on I agree. But Del Rio was not. Withholding the scholly wasn't about the plans for him, or about the money. It was the numbers game. We always have a number crunch going on in August to get under the 85. Del Rio could have been a big help by remaining a walk-on, but he needed to have his ego stroked. Then when he didn't get his way, he left. It just wasn't handled very well by anyone involved, including the coaching staff. JMO.

People don't do well in life by undervaluing themselves. He was supposedly the backup to AJ that year, beating out 2-3 other scholarship QB's, yet the staff wasn't willing to commit a scholarship to him? He SHOULD have left. It makes no sense.

It was about wanting the same commitment from the staff that the other guys he beat out were getting. Best believe when he agreed to walk on, the staff told him if he earned one he would get one. It's a win/win for the Alabama football staff and a lose/lose for the Del Rio's. He's not on scholarship AND they won't commit to him being in their future plans? No thanks.

All that being said, I don't think he would have ever been our guy. The Blake Phenomenon was too skrong

I'm agreeing with GMAC. He still has contacts on the team. Morris is the likely starter against Wiskey. But more than one QB will see playing time with the ones as the season wears on. They will try to keep Blake off the field if at all possible. It's looking more and more likely they can't. If he ever gets in there, only an injury or a complete meltdown will take him out. He's the guy who has earned the nod. Everybody sees it and knows it but they don't want to admit it. This guy is special. He's looking like he's as good or better than AJ, Brodie, hell, maybe all the way back to Richard Todd.

And I think it's time for Saban to really seriously evaluate his QB recruiting. He's lights out at recruiting except for two positions. He sucks at QB and PK. Leave those two to somebody else. Kiffin has recruited one guy and that one guy is better than 4 of Sabans.

Are you serious, man? What else do you want him to do? Look at the 247 composite QB rankings since 2009. Except for 2011 (? - the year we ended up with Morris) he has recruited a top 10 QB each year. And yes, it IS the most important SINGLE position to a team, but remember the Saban rule - no contact with players in the spring - so he's unable to do his due diligence on a QB to find that difference maker. Look all over the country. Who has a great QB in the Pac-12? In the ACC? They don't grow on trees. Some of it is the HS game and the use of the short pass spread offense. MOST high school QBs are simply athletes and don't stay at the position in college. You're off base here. Perhaps Kiffin (see Blake Sims' success last year) is a better QB COACH than Nuss or Mac, but otherwise you're off base on this recruiting comment.

We're recruiting good QBs. The issue is what happens after they arrive.

Being QB-1 at Alabama is HARD. There's tremendous pressure, the job isn't "handed" to anyone, and every team on the schedule is gunning for you head every single Saturday. 247/Rivals can't compute what it takes to succeed here. QB-1 at Alabama transcends recruiting rankings.

It really takes someone special to win at that spot at Alabama, and we're doing ourselves a disservice by underestimating the last 3 guys we've had at that position.

Definitely takes more than talent. All the great one's under Saban have been smart (at least football smart) AND talented.

Archer says hello.

I use to like FG and AD, but it became nothing more than fillers and liberal sunshine pumping. Haven't watched either in a good while.

I LOVE Archer. For me, it's Archer > American Dad! > Family Guy. AD and FG have gone down in quality. AD probably peaked in season 7 and I still think seasons 2-3 of FG are the best. Archer season 1 is just pure perfection. I can quote every line.

I'd be interested to know if Saban really has any plans to announce a starter before gametime. We might be able to figure out who it is from practice reports, but really, what motivation does he have in telling Wisky who they will be facing? Why give them a chance to plan on 1 person when they are having to plan on 5? I'm ok finding out when Eli talks to Coach on gameday.

I will probably know before unless they just don't know or decide to do a split thing. Right now it's Coker, Morris, and Maybe Barnett.
