I stand by what I said. I agree, it takes a special kind of guy to handle the QB job at Alabama and at most upper tier NCAA schools. Sabans record (or his OC/QB coach's) of picking them is mixed at best. He is better at hiring a guy who CAN pick them. He had Jimbo at LSU and he's had quite a mix of QB coaches at Bama, the most successful being Coach Mac and Kiffin. Don't forget besides the Nuss bomb, we had Applewhite as well. Maybe Saban defers to the OC on the QB targets, I don't know. All I'm saying is the track record is long and checkered. Saban brings in talented guys, no doubt, but it's amazing how many of them don't even pan out as serviceable. What's the ratio, 1 out 4? 5? It's bad. And hey, if that's our one Achilles heel in recruiting, so be it, I can live with that as he more than makes up for it. It's just surprising that for every AJ or Jamarcus Russell or Blake Barnett, there's a list of Cooper Batemans and Philip Sims 4 times as long. Obviously you can't find a superstar every year, but we seem to be having trouble even keeping a steady stream of game managers like G-Mac or JP Wilson or Matt Mauck. It appears to be a blind spot. Richt and Harbaugh have an uncanny knack for finding good to great QBs. It's their forte. Just don't ask them to spot a stud DB. It all evens out. It just appears to me that Nick needs to keep the right guy at QB coach because he's not going to compensate for a weak link there. Same with kickers but we all have heard the Booby Williams rant all too often.
