Correct and that's why the trend shifted. He's the guy who picks the qb.

I know in the end, the team should be getting behind the guy that gives the the best chance to succeed.... but is there any thought that some teammates may not get behind a true freshman as opposed to the other guys that have been there, a la Coker coming in last year?

Pure speculation on my part. I could see where there could be a problem if there was a very minor "spread" between the 2 players. I would think the wider the performance gap then the "hurt feelings" would lessen. JMO

I'm certain some hold that view.

But CNS has always recruited with the narrative that every off season is an open competition and he'll play the best talent who does the right things on and off the field and gives team the best shot.

Coming to Bama in the last 5-6 years, you know it is all about competition among a ton of talent on the depth chart.

Some may not like a freshman, but I think it would come more from a lack of confidence in his experience. He'll have to overcome that through performance.

Also according to CNS, no QB has/had yet "won the team". I didn't get the feel from the limited info given that anyone had looked at it as Coker's team yet. According to what was said that never occured last year until the final scrimmage, when BS created that separation.

The team wants to win first and support whoever second. If 1 is provided and not lost by the QB he will be the guy in their eyes.
