TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- After Saturday's 59-0 loss to Alabama, Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin struggled to find positives. About the best he could do is mention the bye week, one the Aggies couldn't need more.

"Right now I think this gives us an opportunity take a step back from a coaching standpoint, from a player standpoint," Sumlin said, "heal up a little bit, get a deep breath and instead of preparing for a game next Saturday, it gives us an opportunity to look within ourselves and evaluate where we are."

A&M is off until hosting Louisiana-Monroe on Nov. 1 at Kyle Field.

The need for the bye week was a common theme during A&M's postgame press conference. Sophomore quarterback Kenny Hill said he doesn't know what's happened to the offense in recent weeks.

"I wish I could tell you," Hill said. "It's something that we'll try to get figured out. We've got a bye week coming up this week. That's good for us. We get to regroup and come out and play a game against Louisiana-Monroe."

Because of a shoulder injury, senior wideout Malcome Kennedy could only watch his teammates struggle the last couple of weeks. He returned to the field Saturday, and as one of the few seniors on offense, Kennedy said the Aggies will have to figure out how to regroup as a group.

"We have each other, and that's all we really need," he said. "Nobody can make us better. Nobody can make us worse but us. We've got some things we need to work on. We've got a bye week to get some guys healthy ... and then just keep playing. Just because you lose a game, the season doesn't stop."

Senior defensive lineman Ivan Robinson echoed Kennedy's comments.

"We need to go back and regroup," he said. "Yeah we have problems, but that's why you have bye weeks, to go back and work on those problems."

Sumlin didn't have many answers after the game, but he kept coming back to the same message -- something has to change.

"Whenever something like this happens, you can't stick your head in the sand and say, 'Hey, we'll go keep doing the same stuff,'" he said. "We've got to make some changes. What those are I can't tell you right now, but the bye week comes at a good time for us."
