| FTBL Say Something Good About The STATE of South Carolina

What is this story?
Over Holidays ,our family would get a whole pig and cook it in a ground pit or have it pit cocked…We would all gather round it and cut the slices you wanted out of it -called pig pickin… That one black guy that cocked it for us one time, made the best homade bbq sauce, I’ve ever had..
if the family cooked it, all the men would meet early, play cards, horseshoes and drink beer..

I can tell you with certainty that I have never broken 80!! My bets score was an 83 and I may never see that again. Even though I don’t work, I still don’t play enough to get considerably better. We are in Chattanooga now and I have several courses close by but can’t seem to find the time to play. Although, we only moved here in May and I don’t know many people yet.
I can say with certainty that, depending on the conditions of the day, shooting 80 would tick me off. However, my handicap index is around 8 right now. It's something I really can't calculate because I'll play nine holes a few times a week.

Time. It's a "therapy" thing with me. A few times a week I know I need to get out NOT on my bike which I do several times a day.

I read a stat today that said 92 percent of golfers have never broken 80. I had to chew on that for a minute. It does make sense. That percentage of golfers don't have a course within a five minute drive. Or five within fifteen. Or twenty within a half of an hour.
Never even broke into the 90s over here. Best round ever was a 101.

I've shared this story a few times over the years. TLDR, I've been playing a long time. Over three decades I guess.

Growing up in Huntsville the Parks Dept. had a deal for "youth golfers." The cost was less than $20, I can't remember exactly. I want to say $12. We had to take a test on golf. Pay the fee, and then we could play FREE from noon until dark in the summer. We had to walk (pull cart was $1) but we could play FREE.

I didn't buy golf balls back then. I scoured the woods for balls that were lost and kept the good ones.

Side story: I played in a charity event with a pastor how had never played a round before. He'd only played baseball. He shot in the low 90's that afternoon.

For some people, the game just "clicks."

It's been a few years but I can still picture that building in my head. If I recall correctly, that's made with what a lot call "Charleston brick." I do remember the white pillars in front. I remember who I was with but can't remember what we we doing that afternoon.
Don't remember a lot either. Been a long time. Long long time. Do remember the rain

Do remember the rain
When I first moved here it was a nuisance; every freakin' day it seemed. Now, not a big deal. Most of the time I can smell it before it gets here. We'd talked of shooting up into Cane Bay today for lunch...the weather just doesn't feel right.

Here's where it gets fun. I live on one side of the reservoir, friends on the other. If it's raining over there normally it's not raining here; and vice-versa. They live about three miles from me; it's just on the "other side" of the water.

Living on the golf course and Lake is nice here in Fort Mill.
Nice! I didn’t realize we had a member in Ft Mill. I lived in Ballantyne and then Indian Land for 11 years. Family is in the Land this week for fall break. Our church was in Fort Mill on Gold Hill. Love that area. Except for the old Jim and Tammy Faye Baker tower and grounds. 🤣 That place was a little creepy.

They were second to take over federal forts and send the Yankees home. I’ve only been through it not to it, which is a shame as it looks like there is a lot to like.

Balantyne area is very nice. We're actually in Tega Cay ( shared zip with Ft Mill.) The old PTL area is (I think) being overhauled after a long tie up in legal stuff. Indian Land seems to be a growing area. 521 is too busy for my taste... :)

Tega Cay folks usually think they are better than Fort Mill folks. It’s like the 90210 of York County 🤣 It’s a nice area there with the lake and golf course. When we go back to visit, 521 is always worse than it was the previous visit. Reminds me why I don’t want to move back! Heck, our old neighborhood in IL now has a nice restaurant, yogurt shop and minute clinic inside the entrance. Don’t even have to leave the hood. Was nothing like that when I got there.

I think TC has calmed down with the attitude stuff. enough of us regular folks have moved in. There are a few Bama folks here. Which make it better. There's even a house divided Bama/barn) around the corner from me. Now, if Bama will take care of business tomorrow...
;)

I hear that! 2010 was not fun living in those parts, for us. I have a co-worker that lives on Windsong in TC, he used to talk about how TC was a step above, so we’d bust his balls a lot. It’s a nice area, no doubt about it.
