| FTBL Bye Week- Say One Good Thing About The State Of Alabama (cannot be anything UA or Crimson Tide)

I have family in Sheffield too, just skip over MS. I had a great uncle than ran the hotel in downtown Sheffield. He always gave me silver dollars. Anyway, he was very tight lipped at who stayed at the hotel while getting music recorded. But many, many, many years later, he would wink back at me when I gave a few names. To say the least he was a popular guy during the glory das of MSM.

Also, my great-Great Grandfather was the Sherrif (Sherrif Wright) of Sheffield during the depression & while TVA was getting set up. Very interesting time there in North Alabama especially.
I would say Elvis Presley stayed there when he played at the “civic center” just before he hit the big time. Jim Ed Brown was the main attraction per my mom. She has photos of both.

Any chance you are related to Johnny Wright? Sheffield HS football coach. He retired several years ago and came back to coach this past season.

Regarding Elvis, his singing quartet included the Ray Walker. Let's just say he knew my mother & Aunts real well. They've all met Elvis of course.

RE Johnny Wright: I do not know him personally but there is a horde of Wright's in Sheffield, Muscle Shoals, & Florence. So I would not be surprised if he's a distant relative. My family tree with the Wrights merged with Samuel Briggs Wright & Reva Azbell.

We have some great state parks. My family and I enjoy camping at many of them.

What are your top 3? I don’t get to as many of them unlike I did years ago.

I like…

Cheaha, Guntersville (if you have a boat), and Gulf State Park (in the fall/winter when it’s cooler).

As a kid, I loved Oak Mountain, but it was close to home so we’d just hang out there a lot. That BMX bike course was birthday party central for every kid in elementary school.

Tough to beat Little River Canyon - hard to believe it’s in the state

If I had to choose, these would be my top three.

1. Cheaha
2. De Soto
3. Gulf State Park- in the winter. During the summer, it's miserable. We stayed there over Memorial Day weekend, good lord it was freaking hot and humid.

Guntersville and Lake Lurleen are both nice parks too. Really, I haven't stayed in one in Alabama that I didn't like.

There's a city park in Leesburg that was pretty nice too. We stayed there in August and went to the water park. It's not a state park, but nice and affordable.

Wind Creek is suppse to be THE park. I haven't been there yet. 😕

Don’t bother it has went way down hill, since The State dropped it… and it is loaded with migrants..(Wind Creek)

I will swear to this comment. Acclimation.

In my opinion, here is not a lot different than there; daily. If you are outside in the morning when the sun comes up and stay outside most of the time, that mid-afternoon 'shock wave' of heat and humidity doesn't hit.

I'm no fool here. I've a deck on the east side of my house, a patio on the west. So, I do avoid direct sunlight. But, the weather...I'd rather have it hot and humid than cold.

I am the same way. Hate cold way more than hot and humid (to a point). I run 3-4 miles a day and hardly ever stop running when it is hot. Gets to cold and I am running on the treadmill upstairs …. Only time I am ok with cold is when it is hunting season and I am in a duck blind …

Here's one of the reasons I live here. It's not running. I've mentioned how much I love biking. I like that I only deal with a few weeks a year when it's "cold." And by that, I mean I'm wearing gloves and some sort of face protection (eyes.)

On another note: I had a blowout on my back tire two days ago. They sent me the wrong one yesterday (wrong valve) and it's been around 40 hours since I've been out. My body hurts, almost, because I want to be out there.

Yeah, Gulf State Park kinda sucks in the summer... I've been there in all 4 seasons and summer is by far the worst. At times, we had a camper with AC and not a tent, and it still wasn't much fun.

I haven't stayed at at Wind Creek, but been by it on a boat a few times. Seems nice...
