So my Brother in Law, sisters’ husband has gotten us a duck hunting trip to Arkansas planned. We will be hunting at a hunting club owned by Big Oak Boys Ranch founder John Croyle and his son Brodie. Brodie will be our guide for this short trip. I’ve never duck hunted before in my life, but am super excited. There will be 6 of us in the hunting party. I’ll be sure to get pictures!! Good luck 93, should be a blast! Pardon the pun… the ducks have been flying this season so far here in the west side of TN, so I’d imagine you guys will see plenty of targets in AR. So far it’s been the best year in probably the last 8–10 years.

We will be hunting flooded timber on a club owned by Big Oak Boys Ranch founder John Croyle and his son Brodie. Brodie will be serving as our guide for this trip. I plan on posting pictures. We fly out tomorrow afternoon and will return Thursday afternoon from this quick adventure. I’ve never hunted ducks before, but I’m excited for this trip. There will be a total of 6 going, BIL, his son, and his father, my dad, my son, and myself.

I don’t duck or goose hunt, but my son does. He’s done a couple goose hunts in that area. Has a great time and always killed plenty of goose. The guides would cook it up every evening. He even had a couple worth mounting. Not on the Croyle properties, but on another private/guided hunt. He hunted on rice fields.

Was a time I was into duck hunting big time. Did it well into my 40's. During my teens and 20's I was in a duck blind every chance I could get. Loved it as it was also a social event with buddies standing around shooting the bull while standing waste deep in water in freezing weather. Wife thought (thinks) I was crazy but it was a lot of fun. Been a few years now since I have been as I have gotten older and duck hunting is a lot of work.

Sounds like your trip is a great setup and you will have lots of fun.

Had a blast! Couldn’t get the ducks in really close to where Brodie was comfortable with a bunch of first timers shooting. I’ll be dumping pictures here shortly.

We flew out of Bessemer airport. Took about 45 minutes to land in Colt, AR then drive 20-25 minutes to the Big Oak Lodge in McCrory,AR.

Brodie’s wife, Kellie, was an excellent host. Over a fresh cut filet from the cattle ranch, Brodie and Kellie shared their story on Ascend, a Big Oak Ranch venture, that bridges the gap for their foster kids graduating HS and entering college.
