This link was posted on another site but it deserves to be seen again.......Some of Saban's best speeches was in the first 2 years here. And most of it needed to be said to get people's head out of their collective rose colored buttocks.

Does anyone remember the events that caused Saban to make those comments? Was it not after one of the then several times a player ran afoul of the law and/or team rules?
I know this will cause some eyes to roll, but that man repeats an awful lot of things Coach Bryant said and taught. I am NOT saying he is another Coach Bryant, but Saban teaches many of the very same things. Personal discipline and responsibility foremost.
And it is NOT a coincidence that with every passing month our players are subjected to his leadership we see fewer and fewer acts of player irresponsibility - off and on the field.
I'm pretty sure that was one of his news conferences during his first year. Either a Prince Hall, Simeon Castille, or Jimmy Johns incident. Not 100% sure, but I think it was after one of those guys brush with the law.
He stayed in Saban's dog house and seemed to never "buy in". He could hit a ton straight ahead but lacked a lot of the speed and athletic ability Saban wanted.
