Dad took me to the 61 Bama vs NC State game. The NC State fans would chant "throw Gabriel Throw".

His account is incorrect. NCSU's TD was scored by Gabriel on a QB sneak from the one yard line. Which, in fact, was the only rushing TD Bama allowed in '61. The other two TD's were scored by passes by UGA in Week One and Vandy in Week Four. I saw all three games. Houston was the only game in '61 that I did not see in person.

I remember him playing for the Rams and Eagles. He played for George Allen and Chuck Knox. If I am not mistaken, he also dabbled in acting for a short time, broadcast NFL football for a very brief time and coached college football. May his family find peace and comfort. He always wore the single bar facemask.
