| RECRUIT Recruiting News: The Alabama class of 2017

Aubrey Solomon. For the last four years, that name has striked fear into offensive linemans' heads. Not only does he have NFL size, he has the motor, the attitude and skills to be the next big defensive linemen in college.

"We (Lee County) played in the toughest schedule in Georgia. We played all top five teams in the state, and Aubrey only elevated his game against the better teams. His motor, size and skills are there. He's the best player in the contry in my opinion." Coach Pych said.

"Alabama, Georgia and Michigan have been in contact the most. USC is also up there also. Aubrey is originally from California so he gets a home feel there. Coach Saban stopped by today and that was HUGE for Aubrey and his mother. They really like what Alabama offers and feel it's a great fit for him."

With only a week until NSD, things are heating up. Alabama and Michigan look to be his top two schools, and Aubrey couldn't be more relaxed.

"Aubrey is a great kid. His whole family is just very solid. Aubrey is a leader in the school and in the community. He's very cool, calm and collective."

Where will Solomon end up? Let Coach Pych tell you his thoughts.

"Alabama. They've had a long time lead for him, his mother loves Tuscaloosa and Coach Saban. I think it will be Alabama, but Michigan is right up there."

Nice write-up.

The Soloman news is awesome. Sounds like we're the favorite! That's the good part about having some snaps up for grabs... More appealing to a kid like this. I'm still a believer in Byers and really hope he's in the class too. Obviously Buggs is a stud and I love Ray to play early. Those 4 would be a spectacular group.

Alabama hosting tall cornerback on official visit

Alabama will host one official visitor this weekend, the last before National Signing Day.

Jacksonville, Fla., cornerback Ameer Speed will make the trip, first reported by Scout.com's Corey Bender. He canceled an Oregon official visit. He does not yet have an offer, but one could come this weekend.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Speed is a three-star recruit in the 247Sports composite rankings. He officially visited Georgia last weekend and has also visited Michigan State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech per his 247Sports profile.

Alabama appears to want another defensive back to go along with commits Kyriq McDonald (early enrollee), Daniel Wright and Xavier McDonald. The Crimson Tide coaches signed four cornerbacks last year, but one - Jared Mayden - was on the two-deep at safety this season.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban visited Speed last week.

The Crimson Tide hosted Miami cornerback Christopher Henderson and Plaquemine, La., safety Todd Harris on official visits earlier this month. Both remain uncommitted. Henderson is trending to Miami in the 247Sports crystal ball. Harris is visiting TCU this weekend.

There will also be a large amount of juniors making unofficial visits on Saturday.

Every year there's more than a handful of amusing stories around signing day. One that comes to mind every year happened in '08 with Julio and Lugenbill. Blantantly he was caught encouraging Julio to sign with Oklahoma. When that didn't happen Lug's response was akin to, "sleeping in the bed you made."

He entertained again yesterday when talking about Ruggs during one of ESPN's recruiting break-downs. It really didn't matter where he said Ruggs would go, FSU in this case, but it was his reasoning that made me laugh.

"Mobile is FSU territory and they feel the city is part of the state of Florida. This essentially gives them a home field advantage with Ruggs and he'll evenutally sign with FSU."

Understand, I still strongly believe Ruggs signs with Bama. However, if I may point out one thing here ...

Ruggs is from Montgomery.

A little more on the upcoming early signing period that is on schedule to be ratified in April. I'm not as optimistic it's going to stop the signing day "circus" completely because kids gonna be kids and some are holding out for the thrill of the chase. But to get the majority of your guys signed, sealed and delivered by December will at lease relieve Saban from all the last minute chopper-hopping he now feels is necessary.

On the other side of this...how many guys has Saban flipped in the final week that possibly could have signed elsewhere? Rueben specifically comes to mind...

I was chatting with a friend last night (UofSC fan) who was talking about their official visitors this weekend.

Saban is jumping around this weekend as are some of the staff ... visiting recruits for next years class. Personally, I find it noteworthy that they aren't hosting OV's this weekend in Tuscaloosa.
