| RECRUIT Recruiting News: The Alabama class of 2017

There has not been any mention of another achool remotely close to us from everything I have read the last six months or so. Sure, Michigan is talking up a lot, but his momma has not been as positive about any other achool like she has Alabama. Maybe he just doesn't want to answer any questions, as has been said before by his momma and those close to him, but I expect him to get off the Tuscaloosa exit on the 8th.

Some of their main recruiting guru's are now projecting Harris to Michigan. They are desperate to grab his talent after some high profile recruits just went elsewhere. When anyone starts claiming inside sources I'm lost, but Tua and some guys he's close with just don't seem to buy it. EE and I think he will keep us guessing because he wants to.

Najee Harris will not be making public decision, will show up at school

@TerryP You still think it is a "Julio thing" and he is flirting with other schools?

Somewhere in this thread I mentioned what positions I thought would be recruited/signed. That's not changed especially considering they're in the middle of the dead period.

Yes, I still believe it's a Julio thing where there's fret until he's on campus. Or it's a Rashan Evans deal. Or a Trent deal. I'm not worried about Najee, at all.

I still believe we'll sign two receivers: Smith and Ruggs. I've heard another safety and we saw McKinney gives his verbal. (Is Gibbs a victim of the numbers?)

Then there's the DL ... been hearing four or five more there. How does that shake out? I don't know. We've been tossing around names like Solomon and Parks around plus another four or five guys. To me, any combination is a good combination.

Alabama QB commit Tua Tagovailoa developing chemistry with top WR target Henry Ruggs III

Alabama is looking to sign several receivers in this class, and one of its top targets is bonding with one of its quarterback commitments this week in San Antonio.

Practice day 2:
Another dominant day for LaBryan Ray, Rivals100 defensive end from James Clemens High School in Madison, Alabama. Expect him to make the Rivals top performers list again. He has definitely impressed many this week.

Very interested to see how high he climbs in the final rankings. Keep in mind only 32 players will receive five-stars. Will he make the top 32 when it's all said and done? Lot of other good players out there. Top 50 is still pretty dang good.

Alabama commitments Alex Leatherwood and Jedrick Wills should have special careers in Tuscaloosa. I definitely consider them the two of the best OL performers so far this week along with Isaiah Wilson. I know some others have Trey Smith ranked high, but he has not been on the level of Leatherwood, Wilson or Wills this week. I don't think any player out here wants to meet Leatherwood walking down a dark alley.

Dylan Moses had a pretty good day today. I didn't get a chance to see him much yesterday. I saw him with a INT today. He moves around really well. I think if he continues to impress this week he has a chance to finish as a five-star. Chris Allen is another Alabama commitment who certainly looks the part. He pulled his groin today, and may be out the rest of the week. He is going to give it another go tomorrow, but could be out the rest of the week.

Markail Benton is giving it his all this week, but you can tell he is not 100-percent. He will have labrum and knee surgery in the next few weeks.

Jerry Jeudy just makes things look so effortless. He's having a great week. There are some really good receivers down here. Jeudy and Tee Higgins have been the most consistent.

Akial Byers had another rough day. I'm not sure if he is battling any injuries, but he's lost the majority of his reps. I've said for about a month I expect him to end up elsewhere because of grades. I still think that is probably the case.

I haven't really seen much out of any of the defensive backs. Xavier McKinney had a nice pick today. DeAngelo Gibbs was better yesterday. Daniel Wright has been solid, but nothing to rave about so far this week. He has been returning some punts.

Any guess on how our defensive line class pans out?

BONE: I think it will pan out very good for the Crimson Tide. I think Bama will get Solomon and Ray. Maybe one more.

  1. Still looking like 2 more WR's, and would that still be case if one (Ruggs/Smith) went elsewhere?
  2. Assuming now we can actively recruit Wilson and Kinlaw? Is Kinlaw more a "wait and see" on Solomon?
  3. Do you see a last second surprise that Saban typically pulls (Aaron Robinson, D. Tomlinson) or do you think we finish up with the known names we have?

BONE: 1. No, Bama won't take two from what I hear if it's not Ruggs and Smith.

2. Bama loves Kinlaw. It's just a matter of overall numbers, and trying to move some things around (not including Akial Byers who I don't expect in this class). Alabama would love to try and fit both in if possible. Might be a situation where only get Ruggs, and then have room for more at another position. Some just don't understand the numbers right now, and that's why they are saying Bama has room four 3-4 more DL. There has to be some shuffling before Bama can even think about it.

I've asked time and time again in the last few weeks regarding the DL numbers because of the high confidence from some on numbers of spots remaining. I continue to be told Aubrey Solomon and LaBryan Ray are the only two with guaranteed spots. Jarez Parks has a spot, but considered more as a Jack. This isn't to say Kinlaw won't be in the class. He probably will have a spot. It's jut not a guaranteed spot right now as compared to Solomon and Ray. Trying to explain it as best as I can.

3. It's possible. Not sure who. Numbers weren't as tight last year. A door opens if one closes with another target. So we'll see if they miss on any guys.

What's your gut feeling on who we finish up with?

BONE: Well the players I think Bama has the best chance to close with include Aubrey Solomon, LaBryan Ray, Jarez Parks, Henry Ruggs. DeVonta Smith is certainly in the mix along with Javon Kinlaw and Phidarian Mathis.

Do you see Lray and Dylan Moses becoming 5 stars for the performances at the AU game and practices

BONE: Ray had a great week. I'm interested to see how high he moves up from his current position. The fact is others have to drop from players to rise. How many players ranked ahead of him are better? The analysts aren't just evaluating how well a player did in Orlando to determine if they should move up. They are also evaluating all the players in San Antonio.

They will then decide the 32 best players in the country and give them five-stars. He is deserving of five-stars, but others are as well. So it's a tough assignment for the Rivals staff to put the list together. I think there is a better chance for Dylan Moses because he is already about 20 spots higher than Ray, and I think he will move up based on how well he performed throughout the week and game. It may not be many spots, but just enough to give him five-stars.

Hope that all makes sense.

where do we stand with LRay? Also, does Tua play a factor in what Najee does?

BONE: Great shape for Ray. I've said Tennessee is a factor for a while. I'd also watch for Florida. However, I can't see him going anywhere other than Alabama. Najee is going to do his own thing. Tua spending time with him in San Antonio helps. Everyone is going to find out on Najee around the same time. There is really no inside info on this one. His coaching staff, and those close to him don't seem to know what he is going to do. He speaks to Alabama and Michigan on a daily basis. Both think he signs with them. Good news is he is around Tua this week in San Antonio.

Anything new with the wr we are in for?

BONE: They were great! Thanks! Nothing really earth shattering. Bama is still heavily recruiting Henry Ruggs, DeVonta Smith and Nico Collins. The attention is focused on Ruggs and Smith. Bama believes its in in good shape for both. I did ask about the possibility of getting back in on Jeff Thomas after his week in Orlando. I was told the only way if Bama misses on Ruggs which they don't expect to.
