Can someone clarify what was posted on al.com? The wording states "The school's self-initiated investigation involved sports programs in addition to football, sources have said. UA sports programs, including football, face a potential loss of scholarships if the NCAA decides the school's corrective actions were not sufficient."

Hmmmm, so they punish in this case based on said "corrective actions"? I just assumed they punished based on initial action. Is the wording here different because it was self reported? This is all just a little much for books.

Jangles pretty well hit it. I can think of a number of examples but one that is well known happened about 6 years ago with Michigan.

You remember the "fantastic five." Webber, among others, getting extra benefits, etc., when they were playing for the Wolverines?

Michigan self-imposed quite a few penalties; forfeited over 100 games, self-imposed a fine of close to $500K, pulled championship banners (always wondered how that was considered a selp-imposed penalty,) and banned themselves from the tourney.

The NCAA added on to that with another post-season ban, reduced their scholarships even more and added a few years to their self-imposed probation window.

More recently, the NCAA did the same to Indiana with the Kelvin Sampson ordeal. The added to the number of probation years, and also included a "show cause" order on a school hiring Sampson.

It's very possible we could see the NCAA add penalties to oen of the women's teams and leave the football program as it is...or, they could tack on a few scholly losses.
