🏈 Oregon Fans "We want Bama"

Pfffft, Oregon needs to take care of their business before they start talking.

I totally agree with you.

A few notes on the Tenn game:
1. I was on the 30 yard line row 6 so I was basically at field level.
2. The link says the SEC chant came from the student section...... school wasn't in session yet and the "student section" wasn't what we usually expect, more a mix of locals and students.
3. The crowd was pretty quite for that game.
4. Tenn offensive line was billed as the "BEST" in the SEC and they didn't perform well.
5. Tenn QB had a difficult time figuring out the Oregon defense, where they were coming from, what set they were in etc.
6. Tenn committed to stopping the run and left the passing game open. Granted prior to this game, Oregon hadn't thrown the ball well this year. Still anytime the TE has 5 catches for 120 yards, chances are good the defense was too focused on the run and left the TE open.

NOTE: People around the country have been subjected to the SEC chant in past years. The problem for the SEC is that's a "CONFERENCE" chant claiming superiority. The SEC fans have to expect the chant to come back at them when they get run over by an opponent. It's something the SEC created and they should be mature enough to live and die with the chant regardless of the outcome.

Beating Tennessee, statement win right there...at least the team didn't dump water/Gatorade on your HC afterwards :biggrin_blue: (take that Texas). Chanting SEC after beating them, even better. Beat Auburn/LSU when it counts, then you can start chanting SEC...

I was at the LSU/Oregon here in Dallas a few years ago, good atmosphere had some really good conversations with LSU and Oregon fans. I witnessed a few groups of younger Oregon fans show their ass towards the end of the game (20 somethings). Was pretty sure I was gonna see a few fights at the game based on the things I saw.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum, hope you keep posting ;)

I wouldn't really call beating Tenn a statement game. It's just good to have a few BCS conference OOC games on the schedule and take care of business. Much better than having a Nichols St or some other cupcake. By the way those kids from Nichols St, obviously no competition, however, those kids came to play and laid it all out there. I give them credit for "competing". They can hold their heads high, they didn't quit.

We try and work on educating the new Duck fans, get them to be a bit more sophisticated, act like they've "been there before" etc. It's an on going process, and will continue to be such.

I don't disagree with you at all about the give and take around the SEC chants. You'll find there aren't a lot of Bama fans that are fans of crowds screaming S-E-C.

In this case you have to ask yourself "who are you giving it back to?" A team that's won 12 conference games in the last 5½ years, that's who. A team whose biggest conference win was against a 2009 UGA team that finished 8-5 on the season with a .500 conference record.

I certainly respect Oregon's program and its accomplishments. Beating UT has nothing to do with that respect. In fact, I'll go as far as to say if a team is going to chant S-E-C after beating a conference team perhaps, just perhaps, they should do so after they beat a team with a winning record.

I haven't watched many Oregon games this year and I rarely watch the entire game due to the teams you've played to date. So can you help me understand Oregon's stance keeping the 1st team on the field.

From what I can tell, Mariota stays in a while - is he getting more time with 2nd and 3rd string WR's/TE's/RB's?

TerryP, I don't expect everyone to agree with my opinion. I will stick to the fact that SEC is a "conference" chant and as such the entire "conference" benefits and suffers according to the "conference" success or failure.

As for Oregon's "Accomplishments", I don't think Oregon has accomplished much yet. We're still that bright light in the rear view mirror that keeps getting brighter. Once we've got all the headlights behind us, we'll have taken the first step.

Actually, Mariota has only played in the fourth quarter once this year, against Washington. Typically, they take him out in the second or third quarter. Same with DeAnthony Thomas, of course he's been out the last couple games. For example: Lockie took over at QB in the middle of the third quarter against Tenn.

You'll find we don't agree with each others opinions often around here. We're fortunate to have a member base where the majority understand that while they believe their view is correct it doesn't mean anothers opposite view is incorrect—it's just another view point.

It's mirrored, as a conference, in how many fans are "into" the S-E-C chant. There are a lot that don't give a damn about other conference teams. Believe you me, when the Ducks beat UT my "conference pride" wasn't dampened at all. Fact is, over the last six years the Vols have been a blight on the conference.

Personally, I don't root against SEC teams. There are a couple I certainly don't root for on any occasion—UT being one.

That's a nice turn of phrase!

While I don't find the Hypeman trophy any more than just a lot of hype, if I had a vote he'd certainly be my front-runner. He's putting up incredible numbers this year...or better put, it's the lack of numbers that's impressive with 0 INT's on the season at this point (IIRC.)

I guess you'll have to educate me; how often have the ducks "been there" in football?

1994 and 2010 IIRC

94 they made it to the Rose Bowl undefeated and got waxed by one of Paterno's best Penn State Teams. That team really "over-achieved" and just ran into a buzzsaw of NFL talent in Pasadena.

2010 they played the weakest SEC champ defense of the last 7 years and lost while only putting up 19 points. We are still having to listen to Barn fans crowing because the Ducks laid an egg in that game. :sauer055:

I have read enough from Duck fans to understand how many of them feel about Alabama and SEC Football as a whole. GoDucks349 is more, say, polite than most I read on the national boards and they have this feeling that they are already on par with everything that is Alabama. The "we want BAMA" chant was fine as long as their fan base truly understood how it looked to us. It's like the NY Giants beating the Jaguars and then screaming, "we want the Broncos" but hey, I guess they are both in the NFL .

The Giants? The 0-6 Giants? How insulting to Oregon to compare them to the Giants :icon_lol: I would say the Ducks are more like the undefeated Chiefs, if we are saying Bama is the Broncos. Chiefs and Broncos are the only undefeated NFL teams left.

Peyton + cold = 1 Super Bowl ring. I would have compared the Bronco's to last years ND team...

So, it was a little backhanded I guess. At least I left your Eagles out of it!!! :icon_lol:

I was reading today how Oregon is wearing pink helmets this weekend for the whole breast cancer awareness issue which I think is an awesome cause. Scrolling through the remarks Alabama's uniforms were brought up, of course. One guy said we were simple-minded people so we had very simple uniforms (how cliche) while others suggested our uniforms were hideous. Yes, DUCK fans saying OUR uniforms are hideous.

First, both Oregon and Alabama have to take care of business before talking about meeting in the NC. So do bama fans take it as a compliment that fans of another team would chant "we want bama"?

How does it look to bama fans?

Oregon has shiny uniforms, Bama has shiny rings. Which one matters more?

Oregon students selling 'We Want Bama' T-shirts; One Duck says of shirt: 'Damn straight'

"Outside of Oregon, everybody else in the country thinks that Alabama is the best team in the country and we obviously disagree."

Read More Here...
As Oregon dismantled Tennessee 59-14 last month, its fans had one clear message: "We want Bama."
They still do.

Per the Daily Emerald
, Oregon seniors Grant Otter and Harrison Tingler turned the chants into "We Want Bama" T-shirts. The $10 shirts are going at a brisk pace.

Almost 200 have been sold and another 400 are on the way, per the report.

"Outside of Oregon, everybody else in the country thinks that Alabama is the best team in the country and we obviously disagree," Tingler told the Emerald.

"I was wearing the shirt on campus walking down 13th. I don't know who it was but a big football player walking sees my shirt and goes, 'Damn straight,'" Otter said.

Personally, I don't care who Oregon plays, as long as they get to the NC game life will be good. Plenty of football to be played before that happens. Right now, it's WSU and Leach and his bag of tricks. He's a dangerous coach to go against and will upset a few along the way, I just don't see him winning week in and week out. Still dangerous, ask USC.
