🏈 Ohio State Has Alabama Beat in Every Metric to Make the College Football Playoff

Consider this: If we were going in to week 13 (last weekend) and Bama, Clemson, OK, and UGA were undefeated. All teams lose to the teams they lost to during various weeks of the season. Who would be ranked highest of the four? Bama, obviously. Now, look what happens now that we lost in week 13 vs week 4, 6, or 10. Clemson and OK are ahead of us. Why do they place such emphasis on when the loss was? Even more emphasis on when than on who the loss was to. Irrational if you ask me....

I'm going to throw 3 more factors into how we get in.

1) Money
2) Politics
3) The future of the CFP.

And all 3 intertwine with one another.

ESPN is losing their shit. Ratings are WAY down because of the continual insertion of politics into their programming. This has a lot to do with the woes of the NFL. ESPN bit off more than they can chew when they contracted with the NFL. I read a stat somewhere that said that every network that carries NFL games is accumulatively set to LOSE about $200m-$500m in ad revenue, conservatively, because of the ratings tank.

However, the saving grace is that ESPN has a major contract with the CFP. Pretty much since year one of the CFP, there has been a push to add more teams. What GREATER way to push that over the edge this year than to add TWO TEAMS from the SEC in the top 4? Remember what pushed the playoff idea full steam ahead was the national "fallout" of 2 SEC teams making the top 2 in the BCS in 2011.

More CFP games = more money.

Add to that fact the ratings BOOST by having 2 SEC teams in the top 4. More money this year, plus more money down the road because this will be the powder keg they need to blow up the current 4-team model. Probably as soon as next year they will likely make it a top-6 with #1 and #2 getting a bye while 3-6 duke it out for the chance to play #1 and #2. Then adding 2 more teams the following year.

Plus, Jerry Palm is pretty reputable, and he has MULTIPLE scenarios where we get in this year.

Here's an interesting way to look at it...

I put together this little chart that takes the FCS games out of it...

Oklahoma is a dog on paper...

Clemson is pretty much equal to us on paper EXCEPT their loss was to 4 and 8 SYR ours to 10-2 auburn. I don't really see how or why anyone would put Clemson and/or Oklahoma ahead of Bama... but I guess since our loss was late it counts more...

OSU has a very bad loss to Iowa and an additional loss to Oklahoma... with a similar schedule to ours. I don't see how they could/can rank ahead of us.

Meanwhile we may be having this same discussion this time next year with Arkansas State, Louisiana-Laughable and The Citidal on the schedule for 2018.

Yep....thats the truth.....our football schedule sucks for 2018.....
And Louisville as our "big" non conference game....pathic..
Well...our "big" non conference game in 2019 is....DUKE....in Atlanta...wow
Thinking about selling my season tics next year...taking a year off...

so true even in the barn game......our receivers where held and turned on a bunch of plays. Kirby smart submitted 6 plays to SEC showing how Barn held his receivers way down field. They got away with it against us also.
