Nike Has Removed All Redskins Apparel From Its Website

Nike is the latest entity to get involved in the ongoing movement to get the Washington Redskins to change their name.

As of tonight, the company, which is the official sponsor and supplier of NFL uniforms and sideline apparel, has removed all Washington merchandise from its official website. This is the latest occurrence that makes it seem likely that the team is finally going to make the change.

Earlier today, FedEx, the sponsor of the Redskins’ home stadium, requested that the team alter its nickname. Fred Smith, the founder of FedEx, is a member of Washington’s ownership group.

“We have communicated to the team in Washington our request that they change the team name,” read the official statement from FedEx.



On Wednesday, Adweek’s Mary Emily O’Hara reported that 87 investment firms and shareholders wrote letters to Nike, FedEx and PepsiCo requesting that the companies “terminate their business relationships with the NFL’s Washington Redskins unless the team agrees to change its controversial name.”

In the past, Redskins owner Dan Snyder has vehemently insisted that the Redskins’ name will never be changed. However, it is looking more and more likely that he is going to have no choice.

They have been trying to chance the Redskins name for over a decade! Still not done it, but the way thing going these days it may happen. I can't remember which player it was during the Redskins hay days! He said, it doesn't matter what you chance it to, it will always be called The Redskins! All I can remember about this player is he was Black and played on the defense side of the ball.

Wow, Nike is playing a dangerous game. Using their reach in an attempt to force the changes they feel necessary. Dangerous political game they are playing. We have stopped buying Nike. I can make my own hats and shirts, and I can go to the Locker Room or Shirt Shop and buy from a small business for my Alabama apparel. Wonder if Nike is going to sour with school brass and professional league brass with this crap to where they start not getting renewed? The funny part to me is they have made millions off the Redskins up till when they pulled their stuff, so you wonder what has changed? The Kaepernick deal has been going in much longer than this, so what changed in their minds?

Disregarding whether I care about the name or not, I have no problem with Nike's action. At the end of the day, they're a huge business making a business decision...

It's getting to be a longer list. I enjoy watching the Alabama players' NFL highlights when they are posted here, but's that's the extent of my NFL viewing for the last several years. Between their firearms stand and their boast of being the nation's largest Nike retailer, Dick's has been out for a couple of years - thank goodness for Academy and local gun shops. I avoid Chinese goods when I can (my personal pecking order is U.S., Canada/Mexico, any other generally free nation, then all others and then China. My boycott of Amazon is broken occasionally, but their complicity with China is enough for me to shun them when I can.

Corporations are ridiculously reflexive. Regardless of what they do, socialists will never embrace corporations. I could go on about steps others have take to define deviancy down, but I got grass to cut before folks show.

The media wants to saturate you with the sensation that historic change/events is/are at hand or ridiculous concessions are being made - depending on the outlet - and they only want eyes, ears and clicks to sell advertising. The politicians want you angry or pleased enough to vote for or against someone/something, and if you're willing to send them money to help them defeat the anarchist/radical/liberal/yellow/communist/socialist/conservative/fascist/authoritarian peril they hawk, more's the better.

Both parties have made enough people uncomfortable enough to either stock up or make a first time buy, so ammo has gone through the roof, just like it did when talk radio convinced people Obama was coming for their guns and ammo. That didn't happen under eight years of Obama, didn't happen under eight years of Clinton, and it won't happen under the two years of Biden before he croaks or wigs out during a publicized speech.
