🏈 🔎 A closer look at this weekends opponent, Georgia.

Then let's take it the playing field and what we've seen happen.

IF his statement is incorrect, the things you've pointed to on their defense have been ineffective.

Logic says it's one of two things: talent or coaching.

I think it's talent. Coaching hasn't really changed, but we have heard Kirby make comments the last two years about the Freshmen classes in Athens just not stacking up to classes of the past. Lazy, out of shape, and don't watch film.

I think Georgia blitzes a ton and gets more pressure than they are getting credit for. Can we go put up 40 points like Tennessee? We are capable and I hope so, but this continuous movement to find our best five up front better be solved in two days, because they will be tested.

Speaking of the game, does anyone know where our team stays when they play in Athens?

If they do what they did in those clips, and combine that with getting sacks/TFL's.... they're going to be a scary defense to go up against.
:ROFLMAO: That's all I'm saying. They haven't been effective. The "and" here carries a hell of a lot of weight.

(We've had similar conversations here in the past about Saban and his defense when he was pushing "affecting the QB" and fans were asking "where are the sacks? Why aren't they hitting the QB?" I don't know, but I'd be willing to bet the same threads and conversations are happening amongst the Georgia faithful.)
I do think we can take advantage of their secondary, we've got the skill players to do so.
This isn't new to this year's edition of UGA. I'm not making a comparison to last year's Bama team, only using the numbers as an example. Jalen had over an 80 percent completion rate last year against them. His secondary as been susceptible for several years. It's just been rare for them to come across a QB that could take advantage.

Milroe played the game of his life last season against Georgia. Some of that has to do with his ability to escape and make plays when it all broke down. They had him dead to rights a few times in that game, but they couldn't get him because of how great of an athlete he is. He did the same thing to them in the second championship game a year prior.

He also had is best game ever throwing the ball. I'll argue that wheel route to Jam miller is by far his greatest pass that he ever made while at Alabama, even over the hail Mary against Auburn. That ball to Miller was a piss missile right on the money. And against one of the best ILB in the country(CJ Allen). I wish we could've gotten that Jalen for the rest of the year, because we would've made the playoffs.

I think a big part of us taking advantage of their secondary depends a lot on our run game’s ability to keep them honest. If the run isn’t happening early, we have to continue to pound it to keep them honest and hopefully that will open things up AND not allow them just to tee off on our OL and Ty.

I like our chances in this one. Hopefully we see a team that is desperate and pissed off.

Some quick brief thoughts on this game....

The concerns about Alabama playing well on the road linger, like a dark cloud. If they can get that issue calibrated, and play more like the team that went into Baton Rouge last season, and less like the team that went into pretty much everywhere else, then they'll be hard to beat. That aside, I stand by what I said weeks ago... I like how Bama matches up with Georgia on paper.

IMO, the key offensively is to extend the non-turnover streak, move the chains on 3rd down, and get points whenever available... FG's are wins too. I'm pretty confident Grubb & DeBoer will have a good plan, they always do after a bye. On defense, I'd love to see 2 things... pressure on Stockton (without having to rob from Peter to get there) and good tackling, especially in space. I'm not sure the defense can afford and overcome letting UGA get too many extra yards on runs up the middle, and slip tackles on their screen plays. I really hope to see UA guys flying around and making UGA fight for every yard.

Lastly, beyond which UA team shows up, another concern that I've voiced, and still lingers, is Georgia's superior mental toughness edge. It took a few years, but Kirby finally instilled that Saban-like mental toughness into their bulldog DNA. They are a team that doesn't get flustered, they take their punches at times, but pop up off the mat with bad intentions. It's an edge that Bama used to have over everyone, but an edge that has dulled significantly in the past few seasons (starting under Saban). Can they get that sharp edge back? A win in Athens tomorrow night would at least indicate they found their whetstone.
