| FTBL For all of you JJ to linebacker lovers...

I have more than enough reason to believe we'll see your dreams coming to fruition. Reports have him working in LB sets, attending LB meetings and another talking about how he found out JJ had a change of heart as to where he wanted to play.

Just a note...take it FWIW. In other words, nothing "official" as of yet.

I think we will see him at LB and I think he will play well there. Whatever problems he has had in the past behind the scenes, he has stuck with it and when given the chance to play has played well.

Ironically, you stated something here that's the truth. "Whatever problems he's had in the past, he's stuck with it." He's stuck with those problem issues this past season as well and that's the reason the only time you saw him get significant playing time was due to injuries and suspensions.

If this story is indeed true, there is one thing I wonder about. Here, we have a Sr. that is going to be playing on a defense that is basically under the leadership of a sophomore.

No one to fault but himself.

You know...I was friends with one of JJ's former HS coaches in MS. He told me two years ago that JJ would move to LB if it would help the team. The whole thing about JJ not wanting to move is odd to me, but then - he was told before 2006 that he would get moved back to QB and it never happened. With all the shuffling and failed promises, I don't know that I blame JJ for being a bit contrary.

I don't know where one of his former HS coaches came up with that, but the discussion about JJ moving to LB in '06??!!?? Best guess is that is something JJ told him. I don't know. I do know that it wasn't something the staff told him (JJ) at that time. Hell, I wouldn't put it past a coach there in the state of MS to say insinuate something along those lines.

The being contrary part of his behavior is something that throws me for a loop as well. He's broken team rules under both coaching staffs. He's skipped classes under both coaching staffs. He's been suspended under both staffs.

Going into '06 he was slotted at the #2 guy in the backfield. Neither Shula or Rader had any intention of moving him to the other side of the ball.

Not LB in 2006, QB in 2006. When Brodie graduated he was (allegedly) told that he would get a shot at playing QB and it never happened. As for moving to LB, he (again - allegedly) told a former coach that he would move to LB if it helped the team and he got playing time.

I agree that it does not excuse skipping classes but according to his coach he was willing to do whatever he had to do to get on the field, even move to linebacker. The former coach I am talking about is no longer coaching in Brookhaven, and I do not doubt what he was told. He is a good guy. I guess we could doubt JJ, but I don't doubt that he told the coach what he told me.

I'm sorry, but that isn't true either. It was JJ's decision to move to the RB slot. In '06, there was not a single word about him getting a shot at QB. In '06 his meeting with the offensive staff, pre-season, was to work on his RB skills through the season backing KD with the goal of sharing the duty of the 1st string RB position with Upchurch and Coffee.

I'm not discounting you heard that. But, I am saying that I know what happened in those RB and QB meetings. JJ wasn't included in any conversation with a QB position. That word came from people in those meetings.

Shula telling JJ he was going to get a shot at QB in 2006 came from JJ to xCoach _______ to me. It never happened but according to JJ it was going to. According to xCoach _________ he was very excited about it.

The linebacker issue was more a passing comment after 2005 - that he would do whatever was asked of him, even move to LB. He had not played LB since Jr. High, but I seem to remember that he played some safety in HS.

Skipping classes is also a bit of an oddity for JJ. He was a pretty good student in HS...not great, but he had no problems that I am aware of. Qualifying was never an issue.

That was my point earlier. JJ may have said that to his HS coach, but it wasn't mentioned to JJ. Heck, he wasn't in any QB meetings in the summer of '06 much less the pre-season of '06.

Skipping classes may have been an oddity for him in HS, but it's been an MO in school.

While I'll say part of his problems have been due to the group he's been hanging out with, at some point it falls on him.

I hope and wish for the best for JJ. He's been great as a player with his interactions with fans, kids, etc. As the saying goes, "He's on the clock."

I sure hope he gets everything squared away. The young man obviously loves playing football, as during his freshman year he told the staff that he did nor want a red shirt, he wanted to play even if it was special teams. Obviously some not so good things have happened since then, but hopefully he finally has his issues squared away and understands what it will take to get the playing time he wants so badly.

If the move is made, does he project to play inside or outside?

Big_Fan, during JJ's senior year at Brookhaven, the only blemish on his team's record came against Vicksburg High fairly early in the season (maybe third or fourth game).

It's been awhile, but I remember reading in the sports page that JJ sat out either one half or the whole game and this ended up being Brookhaven's only loss. Do you remember this?

We live in the Warren County High School district, so we followed the Vikings and not the Vicksburg Gators. I cannot recollect for sure the circumstances behind that game or JJ not starting. I don't think it was injury-related, though.

I honestly do not remember, however I have a friend who is a pastor in Brookhaven and we talked about JJ later in the season. There was never any mention of him being in trouble. I will dig around and see what I can find, but I am not in MS anymore.

I think he would play even less at LB than he did at RB.

We'll see...but there is one thing there is no doubt about. He screwed up his chances at being significant in Div. 1 play. On the clock...not a lot of time left.

I guess you weren't around in the Linnie Patrick or 'Lectron Williams days. Charlie Dare and Billy Ray (my personal favorite 8) ) also come to mind.

In my own little imaginary football program, I'd like to see him drop 15 pounds and become a Lott-Atwater machine.

RTR,

...hmmmm

Dunno about pass coverage but if he could hit like those two I am all for it.

I dunno, but the year he won the Mr. Alabama Football, it should have been awarded to Derrick "Pookie" Griffey from Piedmont. He was a better back...he went to JSU and his first ever carry was an option pitch on the right end that he took 80 yards to the house.

You're the kind of fan who runs football coaches off every 30 minutes. How would you know how much talent Jimmy Johns has? Are you his coach?

No. You're just a fan. If the coaches don't think he's good enough to play, HE'S NOT!
