Day 13 - August 15
Henderson: Alabama Football Fall Camp Journal (HOT 11 ADDED) | BamaInsider.com
No. 32 Damien Harris - Running Back - Senior
The more and more I see of Damien Harris, the more and more I feel he might be the most underrated running back that Alabama has had entering the season. Everyone is excited to see the “next” running back, but Harris looks to be a man among boys, even at the college level and has worked on his speed, upfield cutting ability, and is no doubt due for a thousand yard season, possibly much more. Feed the man.
No. 92 Quinnen Williams - Defensive Lineman - RS - Sophomore
The media spoke with big Raekwon Davis today and Davis was very complimentary of Williams. “That is a guy that can do anything,” said Davis. “He’s a freak on the field.” Williams has some big shoes to fill in replacing Da’Ron Payne, but he continues to receive high praise. “He is one of the guys that I am proud of,” said Saban following Alabama’s first scrimmage. “He has developed and what he’s grown in, improving himself physically, having a lot of maturity, plays with a lot of effort, smart player, and I think he is one of our more productive guys right now.”
No. 14. Deionte Thompson - Defensive Back - Junior
The leader of the defensive secondary. We got a few tastes of his ability last year during the National Championship and he looks the part, is the part, and he’s the hardest hitter in the secondary. He’s more of a ball hawk and you would think he is due for a six to seven interception type season.
No. 8. Joshua Jacobs - Running Back - Junior
100% healthy and that is dangerous for opposing defenses. He’s looking similar to a bowling ball running down field with moves side to side like a gazelle. Jacobs seems hungry for the football, I think he just needs an open field and it’s over. It might be wise to get him on your college fantasy football team while you can. “He’s absolutely 100%,” said Saban. “Very explosive, quick, fast, no issues, he’s been able to take all the reps and has fared very well.”
No. 4. Chris Allen - Linebacker - Sophomore
Alabama really likes what they have in Allen at 6-foot-4 and 242-pounds as he is very versatile showing he can play with the outside linebackers and is currently working with the middle backers because of a depth issue. Allen is going to play plenty this year and should eventually rise to be one of Alabama’s star-studded linebackers.
No. 58. Christian Barmore - Defensive Lineman - Freshman
True freshman Christian Barmore has looked stellar to put it simply. This is from Raekwon Davis on Wednesday, “He’s going to be something great. He has a great work ethic and came into camp with great technique and he’s going to have a great role on the team.” When Barmore gets his named called to play this year, he’ll be ready.
No. 2. Patrick Surtain II - Defensive Back - Freshman
He has that “it” factor and he has a long and lanky range which should make him a problem for receivers when he’s on the field. He has good acceleration, but he’s still learning the part and while he will likely step on the field in some capacity this season, he’s a long ways from being an instant impact player. That is not at all a knock on him because you can see it from watching him at practice, he’s going to be a big time player with a future in the NFL.
No. 41 Jaylen Moody - Linebacker - Freshmen
The 6-foot-2, 227-pound freshman linebacker looks to be a star in the making. He’s made some plays during Saturday’s scrimmage and looks like he could step on the field sooner than later. Stay tuned as we are hearing great things on Moody.
