I hate to post crap about Auburn or even bring it up on the board, but the talking heads on the local radio station really have me scratching my head.

Every one talking seems to think that Auburn's defense will be so much better than what they have been. I don't get it? Muschamp > Steele, right? While LSU put a good defense on the field last year, they were not lights out. I think if you ask anyone in the SEC (that isn't Alabama) who they would want as a DC and the answer will be Muschamp. If he couldn't get all the "talent" on the same page down on the plains, then what makes Malzahn so sure about this years "D". I know they have a lot of talent on that side of the ball, supposedly, but were prone to injury. Still, I just don't see it.

All the media has seemed to jump on board and tend to think that ol' Gus is telling it straight and that the D will be so much better this year.

Personnel has improved, but has the offensive scheme? How many minutes a game will the D be asked to hold the fort down because of a lot of 3 and outs and quick scores and even turnovers? Too many last year. That alone got the best of Muschamp, before he finally had a total meltdown on national TV in our contest. When one side of the ball can't get it done, it quickly demoralizes and neutralizes the other half. See LSU game? Pat Dye came out this week to say that last year's Auburn coaches didn't get along and that chemistry issues were also part of the bigger problem. So much goes into playing winning football, but I doubt much will change unless the barn improves dramatically on both sides of the LOS.

Got a friend who is a Boog Homer and he says that Carl Lawson is unblockable, Montravious Adams is dedicated this year and that Byron Cowart is living up to potential..

My question is linebacker and secondary! You can be great on Defensive line but that alone doesn't make you a great defense. Carl Lawson hasn't played a full season yet, Adams has been a lazy bust since he got there and my understanding in that Cowart had been kind of disgruntled. Mix that with limited depth, a sub par linebacking group and thin secondary unit and you are one injury away from sucking hard core.

I think it is typical Auburn media spin. What will be funny is when they are 4-4 going into game 9 and that same media spin master will be putting out that they knew this would be a tough year because of (put your own excuse here) and that they are building to next year which is when they expect to compete for the SEC Championship.

How many people would listen if they reported how horrible they are? Every broadcast team is telling their listeners how good the local team will be - even Vandy and Kentucky. Auburn's defense will be better, but that's before injuries or extensive playing time due to offensive struggles.

As long as Sean White is their starting QB, Auburn will be a non-factor.

With that 'all or nothing' offense it is near impossible to have a dominant defense. They will be improved from last year tho.
