You don't see the irony that the same grocery stores mandating masks and social distancing are providing food with ingrediants like high fructose syrup and other things that contribute to diabetes?

Personal choice and free will. You do understand those concepts, right? Dr. Walter Williams is an excellent source for a refresher.

No, I control whether I buy those foods. I dont control whether you cough or sneeze on me.

Yeah ya can. Stay away and inside. Once again, that's your choice. You may not like it, but that's your decision on where you go.

Not true. There are certain places you HAVE to go. You HAVE to go to the grocery store to buy groceries. You HAVE to go to the court house if you have a court date, jury duty, whatever. You HAVE to go to work if you want a paycheck. You can say "well its your choice whether you starve to death" too but that is not logical nor reasonable.

Grocery stores deliver (most for free), pretty sure most court dates have all been postponed (I have a speeding ticket that was pushed back like five months), and almost everyone I know is allowed to work from home. No one I know is forced to go in unless they are nurses and doctors. Phones and computers are as powerful as ever and you can research and find anything you may need as well as make any necessary phone calls. There are plenty of ways to survive. Don't want to go to court, don't break the law. So yes, very true.

Brother, manufacturing is hard to do remotely. You certainly have a rosy view of a shitty situation. The remote work stations will eventually be useless without all of the unwashed menials going about their jobs.

Understandable and point taken. Wear a mask and gloves then if you feel inclined. My entire point was that if you don't want to be coughed on or felt like you were in harm's way, there are decisions you have the power of using and putting yourself into your safe space. You have the choice to change jobs and careers as well. My company over in Conyers, Georgia is hiring if anyone is looking, even during all of this. I have said it before on here that as polished of a society as we are, this is still nature where the strong survive, and I mean it even with this.

I've spoken to the owners or managers of a couple of bars/restaurants I frequent near work and home, and both have expressed the difficulty in getting their employees to return to work due to the $600 a week federal boost. With the last downturn, lawmakers extended jobless benefits for years, and some industries had difficulty attracting workers. This time around, I suspected that this $600 benefit would be hard to turn off, and sure enough democrats are pushing to extend. Many industries will be impacted by this. If you have a job to go back to, and you choose to sit because you'd rather take the free money, I have no sympathy.

Where are you? Are patrons even allowed in bars right now?

Of course bartenders aren't flocking back to work when their income is dependent on patrons who either aren't allowed in the bar, limited in #'s by law, or just generally scared to be in public.

Your bar owner friends aren't seriously thinking their waiters and waitresses are supposed to run back to their jobs at a place where legal business is limited at best.... If they're surprised by this, or you are, I don't know what to tell ya 🤷‍♂️

I agree with you here. My question is, how long does this currently go on for? Doesn't Georgia allow like three months maximum to collect unemployment? So at the end of that three months would everything not dry up for the individual and cause them to go back to work?

Tidbit for you guys. I am appreciative of this but it is the ultimate in stupid government. My disability has not started yet and when the shutdown happened my 17 yr old daughter lost her part time (<20hrs) at the skate rink. She didn’t apply until about 3 weeks ago but got approved for unemployment and the $600 weekly kicker. This can’t end well for this country. I think over $2Trillion has been created and dumped into circulation.
I could pay it off because I hold a $10Trillion Zimbabwe dollar. Funny, but in 1980 when it became Zimbabwe, their dollar was equal.

Well they can starve then! That's their motivation to get back to work or find something they can do to earn money. Lord have mercy. It's not the fact that they are running into harms way, it's the fact they'd rather sit on their ass and collect that government money than go out an earn. Once again deincentivizing (is this a word?) them. I go out and earn, not being scared away to provide for my family. How many people in this world go to work every single day knowing they're going to a potentially dangerous job? Millions. This should be no different.

You described almost every job that I have ever worked, but to an extent I disagree with you.

Atlanta metro. They currently serve to go only and have dining space on their patio. @Tidestalker They are reopening the inside, I think next week, and are having folks balk at coming back because of the $600 boost.

No one is surprised by this, of course. If the government extends beyond the July deadline, they will become a stumbling block to the recovery - as if they weren't already.

He (or you) still didn't answer the question - Are patrons even allowed? Kind of important

But past that... The GOVT has gone out of their way to limit their income. Therefor, the GOVT making up the difference should not be an issue. The same way they bailed out big corporations is the same way they're bailing out some individuals - Except on a waaaaay smaller scale. Which is a completely different issue.

It would be one thing if there were no limitations to business and the GOVT is just saying, "Proceed with caution at your own risk" - But they're not. They literally shut down business and sent these workers home... So in that case, paying them is the least they can do for taking control of their employment situations.

In general, hell yes someone is going to take $600 a week instead of going to work for $250 a week. All the tough guy boot strap dudes on here going to pretend like they'd do the same... I doubt it. Those jobs are dependant on customers who aren't allowed to patronize in masses. And again, that's due to government order - No fault of their own.

Blaming the GOVT for shutting them down is a hell of a lot more realistic than blaming employees who had their livelihood taken from them, by the GOVT. Making a fiscally smart decision is just common sense in this situation, not lack of pride.

EDIT: @It Takes Eleven did answer question. Patrons allowed outside or take out. Not exactly going to pay the bills

Yes, this runs until some time in July, but during the last recession they extended unemployment benefits for years.

I understand everyone doesn't have the same means or motivation, but the perverse incentive of free money is strong for many.

As I heard once, "If everyone liked the same thing, everyone would be after your grandmother."

Yup. I read Alabama's maximum unemployment is $275/week. An extra $600 is massive.

This is that pot meet kettle moment for those who would bitch about people on social welfare.

I know a few HR folks that are holding people to it. One said if she calls them back and they say no. She fights that individuals unemployment claim.

This is not true at all. There are millions of people that are nowhere near grocery stores that deliver. There is no grocery delivery within 30 miles of me and no grocery story is driving 30 miles. I was literally just sitting in a court room a week ago. Not everyone is allowed to work from home, I'm not, millions of others aren't.

It's funny because nothing is ever true except your point of view. It's always a mischaracterization on someone else's part, but never yours. Those millions you're speaking of, they're also not near the virus in most cases. People in higher transmitted areas, urban areas and suburbia have that option of grocery delivery.

Once again, don't break the law and you won't be in court.

Get or find a job/career where you have that ability.

Once again, you have decision making power. Whether or not you make those decisions is on you. But keep playing the same old tired victim card, cause that seems to be taking you to higher places.
