| LIFE CV-19: Effects on life, work, and sports

I have been on this earth for 55 years and I have never seen anything like this. Context, as late as 1 to 2 weeks ago I was still in the camp this is all media hype. They have been doing it so long I have mentally conditioned to assume that. It is correct that the President has to be able to see through that and he should have trusted advisors that he should listen to but he is human.
The media hype is infuriating as well as disappointing. We see that in this thread, on this page, with the editor from CNBC stating the US had moved ahead of Spain in total numbers. While that's true, is severely misleading and what I consider to be bad reporting. It was a tweet meant to alarm, not warn, with no context or reference to total capital.

Why is it going crazy in Italy? Because they didn't want to appear "racist" even going to the point of the "Hug someone from China." Very few point that out...their political correctness likely being fuel to the spreading fire.

A few weeks ago we saw every media outlet talking about it being China borne. Now, we're seeing media members question if calling it China borne is racist. All of this following China saying "America's decision to ban travel was racist."

Infuriating...when looking at the story and its timeline as a whole.

With that said, I do wish President Trump would interact with people with a little more tact and have less "about me" attitude but I will get over it if he gets the job done.
You're not alone. I'm still amazed how people still get upset about Trump being himself. It bothers me more that it leads people to identity political views versus simple views on policy. But that's a different thread in itself.

So trying to use metrics, logic, common sense, etc is like trying to argue with a rock...

Futile effort...period
As long as it's civil discourse I don't see discussions as futile.

I'd agree trying to change peoples mind is a futile attempts in a lot of cases. Suggesting a pause to look at things like WHO and their statements in reference to the timing of the administration's actions is a salient suggestion...at least in my view it is.

@BamaBoyJosh I am assuming you don't like President Trump. I have a niece in college at GA that posted on her facebook page that she was all in for Bernie. I still love her and respect her decisions, however I know that she is looking at politics with a different view than me. Hell when I was in college I campaigned for McGovern. LOL The older we get I believe wisdom does change our priorities. I have a cousin that has never voted and he is 49 years old. If you ask him why, he says voting is just the government trying to control you. He also doesn't change his clocks twice a year. When you start to make a lot of money and you see how much the gov takes from poor little ole me, your attitude slowly changes. Now @BamaBoyJosh you are welcome to your opinions about all things because they are just like assholes and toilets. There's one in every house and sometimes 2 or more. Don't worry about your TDS, it will cure itself in time.

I have a great friend from New York. He is very opinionated and blunt. He is the guy I would call if I was in trouble. He ain't politically correct. President Trump is just like him. I think because they are from New York they think they know more than the rest of us. Sometimes I cringe when President Trump tweets or dresses down a reporter, but eventually I just laugh. It's all good.

Actually.... discussing topics are great...having different views...great....expressing views... awesome....not being imprisoned for all those things...American!!!!!!!!

Just saying..... some look at things with different colored glasses. Quite frankly I don't understand how a person sees what they see but they do. Me n you often.. very often... do on football topics. Me n @BamaBoyJosh josh on politics.

But. I don't go into a discussion expecting to change ones minds. Just to express my opinion. Period.

And I agree. As long as it's civil.

I say this all the time especially in today's toxic climate - It is possible to have different views and not demonize each other and call each other silly demeaning names. I respect anyone that has convictions and will stand up for those even if I do not agree with them.

Stay safe all and find some enjoyment in the midst of this chaos. Roll Tide!!!!

One thing about hospital beds (and certain medical facilities) as an argument for the failure capitalism. The number is controlled by the government in most states of the US. Certificate of Need laws were federally required for funding up until 1987 and since then only maybe 15 states have repealed theirs.

I'd like to see the POTUS do the following:
  1. Move briefings to nightly, so people can watch in entirety after work.
  2. Each night, start with "what we've done", then talk about "what we're doing", and end with "what we're going to do". Be consistent with the messaging every night.
  3. Let the others talk through additional items as needed.
  4. Refrain from antagonizing the media.
And I learned years ago in the military, you respect the rank, period.

I would add one thing to your list. Keep it to a certain 15-30 minutes. These things just open up for more and more ranting and rambling when they last 1-2 hours.

I respect the office, but not the person.

I liked Bush and how he handled 9/11, but hated the decision to go into Iraq and his government spending.

Obama- I didn’t mind him until the 5 officers in Dallas were murdered and sitting there at their memorial service listening to him talk about racist cops and shit pissed me and every other cop off. The way he stoked the BLM movement was the final straw and I despised that man with every fiber

Trump- Well he’s him. I think he has done some good things as President, but for the most part he’s been a petulant child. I don’t have any respect for him and haven’t since he was campaigning. Full disclosure I didn’t vote for him or Hillary

In yesterday's briefing, the VPOTUS announced that 254,000 have been tested and received results with a little over 30,000 tested positive.

It's imperative that we don't allow this to spread at the rate that it wants to spread and do our best to contain it. If 50% of the world population gets coronavirus and 1% of these are terminal, then we're looking at 38m deaths worldwide.

Which brings me to my thinking that getting this early is the best time as the hospitals aren't overwhelmed.

Refrain from antagonizing the media.
Hypothetical question here so go with me for a minute.

If you were in the same shoes POTUS wears how would you react to how various outlets are reporting things? Would you sit back and accept being labeled racist when you closed the boarders the day after the first transmission in the US (human to human?) Based on what I know about you it's my feeling you'd call them out; quickly.

What if something you said in the press briefing (the administration working with Google) only to have some of those outlets claim there's no such thing in the works despite the communications from Google and the administration? Hell, I watched the press conference where he went over how they may work together referencing communications from Google. Would you simply allow that to be fed to the American people or would you nip it in the bud?

Where you see "antagonizing" I see instances were these people are full of crap and they're being called out. I see it akin to folks calling out NBA personalities for their "virtue signaling" when they are deep in the pockets of ... ?

Nope, I'd go right at them. It's very clear that many of those in the press have an agenda other than reporting the news. They're essentially trying to create news. I see it for what it is.

Over the years, the POTUS has contributed to this as much as the media has, which is why we're where we are now...just my opinion.

Question last night was with regards to if Trump Hotels would take government money. He called them out on not saying thank you for not taking a paycheck from the previous day's briefing.

One reporter asked a question if he sold stock or invested in any during this. His response, that's a nasty question that deserves to be answered... His response is worth listening to.

Here's an interesting thing. Cuomo says 80% of people in NY are going to get this. NJ top health official say we all will get it at some point. If true then this quarantine and shelter in place business is garbage so why are they pushing it? If false, why are they not being called on it? Something is weird about this part.

It's all about not overwhelming out hospital infrastructure, at least that's how I understand it. I'm of the opinion we'll be quarantined for months. I'm regretting I didn't listen to my dad the last 5+ years on stockpiling food.

As I mentioned earlier, my sister is an ICU nurse in Birmingham. She's shared with me how they're having to reuse the N95 mask all shift and disinfecting it constantly, due to a supply shortage. This is not how they've operated in the past. We need to be protecting our healthcare workers that are on the front line.
