šŸ“” Currie's direct messages shed light on Vols' coach search

Tennessee has a rogue BOT and as long as Haslam is throwing the money at the University, so it shall be. Currie's biggest sin was forgetting that he was merely the conduit between the head coach and boosters. When the hierarchy decided to move fulmer to the assistant AD status, Currie should have run, not walk from that good ole boy's club.

Right around the time when Tennessee went through its debacle with offering Greg Schiano its head coaching job and then rescinding, a report indicated the position had been offered to Chip Kelly. According to the Vols, that never happened — despite what Kelly’s camp wants us to believe.
According to documents obtained by SEC Country through a public records request, former Tennessee athletic director John Currie told UT chancellor Beverly Davenport in a text message that no offer was made to Kelly. USA Today had reported on Nov. 22 that Kelly turned down somewhere in the neighborhood of $6 million per year from Tennessee.
More from SEC Country:
Currie, in his Nov. 22 text message to Davenport, said the report that Tennessee had made an offer to Kelly ā€œis a complete fabrication planted by his agent [Trace Armstrong] to incite competition w (sic) other schools & drive up his price and perceived desirability.ā€
Currie cautioned Davenport that ā€œas we head into the weekend the rumors & crazy speculation etc. will pick up as people throw stuff against the wall to see what sticks.ā€
Of course, the Kelly rumors ended up being the least of Currie’s concerns. His coaching search was a complete embarrassment for Tennessee, highlighted by the hiring of Schiano basically being nixed by public outcry. Despite all that, you could make the argument that Curry got the last laugh.
Kelly, of course, ended up being hired by UCLA. It’s unclear if reports of Tennessee making an offer to him boosted his stock, but it probably didn’t hurt. If that truly was the work of Kelly’s agent, it’s not a terrible strategy

Tennessee is a house divided. The boosters making up their committees and BOT are clearly sabotaging each other's efforts to get what they want. It's as simple and as devastating as raising kids that figure out who the weak link is among the parents. You know, where the mom says no but dad always caves, or vice versa. The great pumpkin knows this game well.

The chancellor hires Currie, 2 months later the president hires fat boy as "special assistant." This was after fulmer told the press, he was led to believe by the committee that he was the next AD. So as the story goes, as Haslam's buddy Currie was traveling abroad looking for the next HC someone was feeding the divided BOT info that was quickly revealed for public inspection.

Why Pruitt would allow himself to be hired by a bunch of misfits is fascinating to me. He had to know how ridiculous this hiring process was and the chaos that got him the job is the same chaos he's going to have to wade through every day. And his new boss,............................................................................................................................................Pruitt must be out of his noggin.
