Report: FOX Sports, Barstool nearing deal to include Dave Portnoy on Big Noon Kickoff

Fox Sports and Barstool Sports are nearing a deal that would include Dave Portnoy on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff and additional Barstool content on FS1, per Ryan Glasspiegel. This comes amid the news of FS1’s programming cuts earlier this week.

According to the report, the deal has not been finalized. It’s another move for Big Noon Kickoff to compete with the every popular College GameDay on ESPN.

Portnoy, the founder and CEO of Barstool Sports, would join Urban Meyer, Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, Mark Ingram, Chris “The Bear” Fallica and host Rob Stone on the weekly pregame show. Hall of Famer Charles Woodson appears on special occasions due to his NFL obligations.

“Barstool content is expected to fill some of this FS1 airtime, likely via a licensing agreement,” Glasspiegel wrote for Front Office Sports. “Details were not immediately available about which Barstool personalities will be included for this deal, or whether this would mean a new show or existing franchises, such as Pardon My Take, get repopulated onto the network. The Twitter/X account BackAftaThis first suggested that Barstool personalities would be appearing on FS1.”

FS1 announced cancellations of shows Breakfast Ball, The Facility and Speak this week. As the report states, it’s unclear if Barstool shows will be licensed to certain time slots or new original programming will come to the network, featuring Barstool personalities in addition to Portnoy.

Pardon My Take is the network’s most popular show and one of the most listened to podcasts in the world. Hosts Big Cat and PFT Commenter (Dan Katz and Eric Sollenberger) hit the mainstream in terms of lead sports talk personalities in today’s landscape.

In addition to that show, there’s the Barstool College Football Show, which is the outlet’s own pregame show on Saturdays. In addition to Big Cat’s contributions to the show, it features hosts Brandon Walker and Kayce Smith, with Portnoy and Big Ev chiming in as well.

Since Barstool has an established college football brand, among their other programming and content, it’s unclear what the status of that show will be. From a pure speculative point, the show would continue with the possibility of the show’s personalities being able to cross promote on FOX Sports.

There’s no doubt the network nearing a deal with Barstool is a direct response to ESPN’s programming and FS1’s changing lineup. College GameDay has been the de facto show for decades but Big Noon Kickoff has certainly made its presence felt, especially with securing high profile games for the 12:00 p.m. ET kickoff time slot.

Ohio State has to be the most self-conscious program in the history of sports. Threatening lawsuits, banning fans of other teams, where does it end. Why can't you just enjoy your paid Natty, enjoy one of the best receivers since Julio, and get prepared to defend your Natty?

In my opinion Dellenger is a solid CFB reporter. I pay attention to both his articles and comments on X.

I've seen Bjork at Ole Miss (with Hugh) and at A&M. I question everything he says and I don't believe much of it to be true.

He goes back and forth between being an outrageous troll and the victim. I just don't like his schtick. What he did supporting small businesses is admirable.

There's definitely 2 sides to him, the human side and the entertainer side. Like mentioned, he's done a lot o help small business and restaurants. Especially some pizza joints. He's also done a lot for rescue/adoption dogs and families of police officers killed in the line of duty. 90% of his act though is no different than a wrestling heel though, it's just that, and over-the-top act. Sometimes funny, sometimes not. But I never take it seriously.

I'm guessing I'm one that don't give crap if is at the game or not!
I'm that way these days. I'll have gameday on for background noise and Corso, but I'm not glued to it like I used to be. I chalk it up to ingesting so much content during the week via podcasts that I just don't get much out of 5 minute overviews on these shows. I did just remember Saban's segment with game film that I really do enjoy.

I think all these shows would benefit from less people providing commentary. Like NFL halftime, do we really need 10 opinions on 8 minutes worth of highlights?

...misunderstood person?

His work during C-19 makes him okay in my book. He's a football fan; extreme at times. That's what makes this fun, right? It's characters like DP.

Agreed. He's a lot like McAfee to me. Acquired taste. At times he comes across as an arrogant ass that has some money and acts like a punk. But other times he shows he has a big heart and helps a lot of folks. He helped RollTideWillie raise funds for his house since Willie wouldn't accept his money.

I've seen Bjork at Ole Miss (with Hugh) and at A&M. I question everything he says and I don't believe much of it to be true.
But then just a couple hours later, Dave Portnoy himself blew a hole in Bjork’s statement the size of the Michigan flag planted at midfield after the maize and blue were victorious in last year’s rivalry game.
Portnoy took to X for one of his emergency press conferences in response to the the Ohio State AD’s comments reported by Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports. And in the video he was open and honest about the difficult situation that his new partners at Fox are in.
But he ultimately said that he was indeed banned from Ohio Stadium regardless of what Bjork said. And furthermore, that Barstool’s college football show was also banned from campus.
