🏈 Crazy thing happened today

I was at Trinity College after seeing the Book of Kells. I'm wearing my Bama hoodie and an older gentlemen calls me over.

Didn't catch his name but he was class of 1962 and played with the Bear, Stallings, Namath, Battle, etc. He says he was a WR and he had an Orange Bowl ring (I believe) to prove it.

Got a pic with him, can't upload it now, but I tried googling the guy's name and I can't find any that fit .. He was originally from Buffalo, got a scholarship.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

That 1962 team was a missed two point conversion try from going back to back on national championships.

I did not do an exhaustive search, but so far all the receiver names on the roster are from Alabama.

It was a different game back then. No free substitution, so most everyone had to play both ways. They did have the "wild card" rule which made one player immune from the limits on how many times he could enter or leave in a half. Alabama' move was to take Namath out in favor of a linebacker. Namath, before all the knee injuries, was a great athlete, and he was part of the goal ine defense.

That's a neat story. Not a run in with a Bama player, but one of my most interesting encounter was here in 2008. I was moving to Charlotte and returning my U-Haul on a Saturday morning in June. Had on a Bama t-shirt. Was taking forever.... Really tall big dude and his wife came in behind me. He saw my shirt and chatting me up. Then proceeds to tell me he played at Notre Dame in the 70's. Said he was a TE on the 73 team that beat Bama by 1 point in the Sugar Bowl. Told some cool stories from the game. But spent 15 minutes telling me how special it was that The Bear was in their locker room waiting on them to congratulate them when they returned after the game ended. Said he shook every single players' hand. Said it was as special as the win. I could have talked to that guy all day. He was a very classy and respectful.

Also possible he's from Buffalo but moved down south for high school or something

I couldn't find any player from Syracuse in 1961 - 1063 He could have been on the Freshman team with Joe Namath, but I can't find a list of them. Also that is the years that Mal Moore was there with Jackie Sherrill, Coach Stallings was there and a lot of other famous players. He looks like that guy in the picture you have but doesn't fit the time.
